Im watching DOTM right now and when sentinel shoots ironhide succumbs to cosmic rust and is reduced to powder, im earning a science degree and honestly boys? It isnt entirely impossible, it would need to be either a severe acidic compound that rapidly corrodes metal or a organism that can corrode metal as it eats away at it

What are your guys' thoughts on this subject? Would it be interesting or a problem? And what other things like this do you think could become a possibility?

Transformers have rusted before in the films: Ironhide and Jetfire have commented on it, and Megatron himself is rusting away in DOTM. It's generally appears to be an effect of age or exposure to some chemical (poor Ironhide, he had to get spayed by Mojo AND Sentinel).

The rust gun, however, is a cool weapon. There needed to be more exotic weapons seen in the Movievierse. The weird thing though is Sentinel only using it once; had he used it a lot of times he probably would have won.

I wish Sentinel used the rust gun on Optimus Prime. I would have loved DOTM way more.

Unforunately the changes from the novel/original meant the rust was just a flashy way to kill Ironhide.

Originally Sentinel used it more often, and the only way to kill him was to take it and use it on him.

Not true, Sentinel used it several times in the ending battle against soldiers and tried to shoot Optimus with it during the arrival of the decepticons scene. It probably is not the most accurate of weapons.

Cosmic Rust was established as a disease back in G1. Weaponizing Cosmic Rust would be a Cybertronian bioweapon. Kind of like Dark Energon in WFC and Prime.

I think it was also used by Oil Slick in TF Animated. It is for sure, a very effective bio-weapon. Probably works better at close range because the further away its target is, the more rust will disapate before it hits.

Now why would you want that? Optimus Prime was awesome. All that badassery and power, and he only used it for good. That's very difficult to do and takes morals.

Anyway, I find it funny how iron is the metal that rusts most, and Ironhide's name being what it is...then Sentinel made him rust.

I would very much like to see what scientists would use the "cosmic rust" for.

Who knows what rusting tech would be used for? Maybe waste disposal? Or perhaps it was designed for weaponry purposes...

If i were to ever actually create such a thing it would be to eliminate old metal items for disposal purposes, of course for safety it would be in an controlled inviornment

Ah. Well, in that case, what the slag is he doing in this forum of all places?

Come to think of it, the only thing the movie-hating bunch does in this forum is complain, whine, and troll.

as were my thoughts, but we all know someone would use it to dispose of tanks, jets, and other wartime items.

well some people wish Optimus was potrayed as he was always been in the past, instead of his movie potrayal in where he kills Decepticons without any mercy or the way he kills them depicatation, slicing, etc (for me i prefer Movie Optimus Potrayal)

There was an episode in G1 called Cosmic Rust, that explains the weapon.

No, it actually doesn't. The original cosmic rust was just a made-up robo-virus. The OP is considering the real life possibility of a "rust virus" or weapon as it was portrayed in the movies.
