this is the most recent incident involving a use of excessive police force:

YouTube - Cop Attacks Young Girl - Phoenix, Arizona - May 2011

then there is the case of a New Jersey girl, at the time of said incident aged 16, recording the police on a public bus involving them investigating a man who had fallen in said bus of the a police officer pulling her off the bus, handcuffing her, deleting the video she recorded, refusing to call her parent, holding her for 2hrs, & then trying to charge her with obstruction of justice before releasing her; she has now filed suit against the officer & the police department. source: NJ girl who was detained for videotaping cops files lawsuit | Pixiq

Public servants on the job should be publicly accountable. They should have no expectation(or need) of privacy on the streets when their job is to interact with others in a lawful manner.

Yeah, that was a bit of excessive force. He didn't have to slam her that hard.

I feel for cops... I really do, but in general there is a fine line between using excessive force and permissable force.

The girl in the first video was resisting arrest. It sounds like the officer tells her to "come here" and she just keeps walking. It also seems like maybe he didn't realize how much momentum he had when he was running at her.

The Youtube comments make me rage. Little kids mad at the law :lol

Eh. Was that excessive? Probably. Do I care? Not really. Maybe next time she shouldn't resist arrest.

and with good cause. Some police have a real attitude problem. It's a difficult job and someone has to do it, but that doesn't mean we should tolerate poor conduct.

Yeah, I'm not saying she didn't deserve it. I really don't give a crap about her welfare, but the fact is that he didn't have to use that much force, and he is now going to face the consequences because of it, as will his department.

Reminds me of a guy that got busted for recording an off-duty police officer pulling a gun on a motorcyclist that was speeding.

I'll see if I can find the video.

Edit: Found it. Was the motorcyclist that recorded it.

Too much talk about "protecting innocents" ... even when they're guilty. If you're resisting arrest, you deserve to get roughed up. That's why resisting arrest is its own offense. I'm not saying there are cases when the police go too far, that's obvious, but it's just silly to think that we need to lessen the power the police have to "protect the criminals". How about you don't break the law?

Too many cases lately where the police have guns pointed at them, they fire their weapon, kill the person pointing a weapon at them, and then the police are sued and lose a ton of money because they used "excessive force".

Anything that takes away from the police trying to protect those of us who obey the law is something I disagree with. Otherwise, why have police in the first place? What's next? Police for the police? And then whose going to police the police policing the police?
