Congratulations Japan! It was hard to watch the US lose, but what a great game. It is well deserved by the people of Japan.

I am disappointed in US loss, but big congrats to Japan who have been through so much this year with earthquake and tsunami. I hope the win will give the country a lift at this difficult time.

The only consolation prize is that it's soccer,so nobody really cares.

It hurts to watch our girls lose, but Japan played better today. Their country should be proud. I'm still so proud of our US team. We had some VERY memorable moments.

Japan didn't play better. The US backline was below average throughout the tournament, but the whole game was dictated by US pressure on Japan's goal...they just couldn't take advantage. It didn't help that they couldn't make penalty kicks in the end. Japan's victory is earned, but the US certainly bailed them out numerous times.

Actually, not making those kicks is really a nice summation of their tournament: missed opportunities abounds. They consistently failed in taking advantage of the many scoring opportunities that presented themselves in all their games.

Not only that, but women's soccer. Given that people in this country seem to have about as little interest in women's sports in general as they do in soccer, I'm amazed this got any coverage at all, let alone as much play as it did.

Yes, I am sure a victory in women's soccer makes losing tens of thousands of lives and entire towns all better.

It's a nice moment in a dark time, but come on, there's so much more they need much more than a win in soccer.
