Baseball is different than most major sports. Any team can beat any other team on any given day. Period. The team that wins a tournament is not always the 'best'. They are simply the ones who survived. Congrats to Japan.

It was a good game, just a little disappointing watching two wild cards play for the Championship. I think next year it'll get better now that all the players have experience going up against teams that don't play the same style of baseball, they'll be able to prepare a little bit better hopefully.

I was impressed with how aggressive the Japanese players are with bunting, and what are you gonna do when you are used to a pitch coming high and heading down to the plate and the pitcher keeps giving you balls from the ground travelling up to the plate. That was just some crazy pitching.

I agree. The American players are spoiled and play just for the money. I say cut their pay in half until they are able to win next time.

    And congrats to Japan.

Congrats to Japan for winning WBC and Cuba for making to the final. American baseball players are for the most part spoiled and only interested in the money and pleasing their boss (see Matsui) and not get hurt. They should change the name World Series to American Series because frankly the best baseball is no longer being played in the states.

Agreed. And for sport fans, especially soccer fans, the World Cup is coming! Between the months of June and July! And I'm so going to watch that! :D

You can say that about all sports or any competitive activity. There are always times when luck plays a bigger role then skill. But with the fact that the American players feel they are the best in the world and they should be paid what the best should get, to lose like this is bad. Plus I think skill would be better in a sport like Baseball since it is basically a game of wait your turn. Not like other games where you fight for the ball to score.

All it takes is for the pitcher to have an out of body experience on a given day and it's over. Many better teams have been beaten simply by this fact. Football, Basketball and Hockey are all sports that the stronger, more talented team is expected to win. That's not always the case with baseball. Case in point, my dad coached one of his 3 state championship baseball teams to a 31-1 record. They're one loss was against a team with a losing record whose pitcher happened to throw a no-hitter. And for the record, so did his pitcher, but the other team one 1-0 on a walk, pass ball then scored on an error. Go figure.
