this is what bay said himself on his site.. did a search didn't find nothing

    Wait a minute!!

I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.

    Michael

so is it next year or 2012

It has to be next year to fit with the years of the last two. 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Yeah he wanted to take a year off, but they wouldn't let him. So he had to choose between doing it right away or not being involved with TF3, probably.

I guess they twisted his arm on that one. Either that or it was a ploy to negotiate a better fee.

No, it' 2011. He did say that initially, but his plans have since changed... it'll be out next year.

I wish he would have taken a break, and maybe that way we would have gotten two more films..

Now that he has a writing staff again to take care of the story (writer's strike during tf2 <_<) it won't be near as difficult for him to bump up the schedule since he can focus purely on his Baysplosions again.

If he had taken a year off, Paramount might have gone with another director, then we'd have another X-Men 3 on our hands.

    But i liked X-men 3........T_T

I kinda think Bay should of taken an extra year. Working constantly on the film series is probably sucking the life force out of him. Had they not waited till this year to release ROTF it woulds of been the smash hit of the year with fixed plot holes and less dirty jokes, Bay was rushed to get ROTF out by last year.

Guarantee you it was the latter. Hasbro and Paramount don't want the Transformers fever to die down so Bay uses it to his advantage to get some more money. If he really needed a break do you think he wold have given up so easily? Just business.

I read something some place that he had plans for some small movie to make in 2011 but he decided in a financially tough times it was fairer to keep people in pizza and beer by making the movie now and keeping a lot more people with a roof over their heads with it.

Gotta agree on that. While I did like ROTF, it's a prime example that effects alone can't carry a movie. The book was much better.
