    So I wonder.

Do Takara consider Animated to be so unimportant that they don't even bother with giving the characters "Japanese" names like "Convoy" or "Bumble", or have the movies made the brand so popular in Japan that Takara now prefer to cash in on their popularity with keeping the Western names instead of reverting to the old Japanese G1 names?

Interesting that they're sticking with Optimus Prime rather than Convoy. Makes me think they'll probably use OP for Hasbro-led series and Convoy for TakaraTomy-led series or special sublines like Alternity or Shoeformers.

I wouldn't be surprised if Takara stops using Convoy alltogether now that Optimus Prime is named as such over there.

Probably the latter - the Takara guys interviewed in Generations 2009 vol 3 said they hoped that people would now say "Optimus Prime used to be called Convoy".

its probably to do with the movie using the western names and younger kids associating the characters more easily.

unless the movie characters have different names in japan

It calls Animated "New Toy series". No mention of cartoon itself there.

can somebody PM the guy who always posts about how TF:A was a massive faliure, and that the line being released in japan with their US names is YET MORE evidence of how much it failed on every level. i like that guy, he's funny.

anyhoo, any sign of jap-exclusive repaints on the horizon yet? i'm hoping for shocky repainted as shackwave ;)

    Ebay:
Mold development costs no longer need to be recouped, so hopefully they'll allocate some extra coin and spring for spruced-up paint jobs on the mainline. History says a couple of store and/or magazine exclusives is almost a given.

Not that I'd actually purchase an Animated toy, mind you... but more options for those that like them is certainly good. :)

They'd really only need to make a Voyager Ramjet and Slipstream, right? It's unlikely to see Voyager Thrust and Dirge... (yes, there's a character model sheet out there for both of them).

ditto. People who don't like something need to learn from ams to respect people who actually do instead of ranting off with insults. :thumbs2:  True respect.

My knowledge of japanese animation taste is a bit limited, given I don't particularly like 99.9% of anime exported - how likely is the kinda-almost-semi-superdeformed aesthetic to be well received?

Thanks for the kind words, but it's just big picture thinking. It's foolish to wish for a TF line to do poorly, which is why I have to chuckle whenever I see people say it on here.

I heard some random person in the toy aisle the other day say, "I hope these movie Transformers fail utterly so they go back to making the good stuff". Because lord knows, just as soon as Hasbro suffers a crippling financial failure, they'll have piles of cash sitting around to make exactly what you want. :lol

And, truth be known, although the TFA style isn't for me, I've never yet been able to resist a clear or black exclusive. If any of those appear, I'm roped in for sure.
