At first I thought this was a micromaster base , but it's actually a G2 Go-Bot base which appears on this Concept Box Art .

Anyone seen these before, or have any other information on the purpose / age of the item?

Note: Could a mod correct the title please?

There's photos of that at a 90s convention somewhere. The piece is quite well known.

I corrected that title for you. Interesting piece, I remember seeing the prototype in an old magazine from the mid-90's. Same magazine also previewed Laser Optimus and the Dagwon mecha (called Dug-on at that time)

That toy is awsome. it fires the go-bots with a launcher and was seen at Botcon 98 I think and also seen in Lee's Action figure news around the same time,The Hartman's used to own it and as spacebridge said Ras now owns it. you can see pics of it in his collection thread on this board.

Yep the Greasepit stunt set. The truck was actually recolored and released with a generic (non Transformers) car as part of Target's equally generic "Kool Toyz" Christmas assortment back in '97

Yeah I heard that a while ago. I have never actually seen one. Do you have a pic?

Yes, I own a hardcopy of the set. The set is called 'Road Rig' and the included GoBot is called Greasepit. It was scheduled for release in 1995 but was cancelled for the Beast Wars line. Good move boys and girls.

    It was prototyped in 1994.

Cool. Thanks for all the info, posted both here and at The Allspark. I've updated the page with everything mentioned so far, which is far more then I thought Id get (especially in such a short time).

It reminded me of some of the old MASK items.

I'll see if I can't track mine down...it's probably in storage though...

The truck itself is pretty plain, just grey and black. I only bought it because I was working at Target at the time and recognised it...I was planning on painting it and a Soundwave to match the proto...but never got around to it.

That would be great if you could find it. I did try searching for one on eBay a while back but no luck.

I rather like the idea of launching 'bots into the air from a ramp. I definitely would've bought one, too bad...

I would have been VERY happy to have seen G2 last just that extra 6-9 months before changing to Beast Wars...there isn't a single piece in that last push that I didn't want :(

Man, Gobots were the SHIT for me when I was like 4. I was so sad when there were no more to get. I would've told my mom endlessly about how much I would've wanted it...

Yeah, my son and my nephew have vast armies of them, they love 'em...yet they don't seem to like the Legends...probbaly because the GoBots / Spychangers fit on the Hot Wheel track :)  Amd I don't have to hear the "oops, his arm came off" every few minutes as a ball joint pops on a minicon...
