BAM! edit: oops, thanks for moving to proper area mods. Conan O'Brien coming to TBS – The Marquee Blog - CNN.com Blogs
Well I'm certainly glad he's back, I'm just curious if his following is big enough to make the show successful on basic cable.
yep. i recently started recording them. i enjoy it and based on other people and online opinions, for the most part it's pretty successful.
I'm not saying the George Lopez show is bad...but Conan should have no problem given the success of Lopez' show thus far. Who would have thought that TBS would have back-to-back late night talks shows like CBS and NBC while Fox has none?
While I'm glad to hear he's coming back, I'm bummed that it will be TBS. I don't have cable, nor do I plan to get cable solely for one program, so I guess my nights of watching Conan ended earlier this year.
fox was never truly successful i guess. there were a bunch of shows that failed. wanday sykes is at the top of my head. i remember reading a blog and they had a list of shows that failed. i also fail for not showing evidence. perhaps hulu? or like conan's show website. nbc airs all of their episodes of the jimmy fallon show so maybe tbs does a similiar thing?
Awesome news. With all his old characters and regular skits still part of NBC, I'm anxious to see what new material Conan's got up his sleeve. I also may have a pair of tickets to see Conan's stop in Atlanta for a non-scalper fare so double excitement!
yeah, I'm sure I'll check out a few episodes on the internet but it's not the same as turning on the TV and relaxing on the couch to enjoy the show as it's being broadcast. I'm aware of the options available to connect the computer to the television, etc. etc. I'm too old-fasioned I guess. Part of the enjoyment of watching Conan or any late night talk show was looking at the clock, thinking "Hey, Conan's on!" and turning on the TV. It's a routine that goes as far back (for me) as the 1980's when I was ten years old and staying up past bedtime to watch Carson & Letterman. Conan became an extenstion of that when he started, although by that time I no longer had a "bedtime". All woe-is-me sentiments aside, I'm glad he's back!
Fox's issue is how the block of time is tied into the network. I'm sure someone can explain it better but my understanding is that the affiliates currently determine what they can air during the late night time frame. What is currently done by each separate affiliate is that they purchase syndication rights for whatever show and make some pretty nice cash off of the show and its advertising rights. In order for the Fox network/coporation to convince the affiliates that they would have to air the show, they would have had to determine how the affiliates could still pull in the same cash without having the ability to control syndication or advertising rights.
I was hoping he'd be back in September, but I can wait a couple more months if I have to. Now I just have to figure out what channel TBS is on my cable carrier - haven't watched that station in years.
i lucked out and got the last pair of tickets for his show in chicago. i can't wait! yeah that makes sense. i agree. when conan was on late night, way long ago and before dvr's i'd love to tuning on the tv and realizing conan was on and doing some funny skit. okay i read it twice and the second time around it made sense. (it's me)
They replaced TBS with Peachtree TV in Canada. I wonder if they'll show it there. I never watch that channel...
