Hey all, just have a quick question for you all.

Just going by general quality, which one do you think is better, any why?

    Norton or McAfee?

Neither. Panda is where it's at.

But, I've heard Norton has improved drastically over the last few years, and between the two... Norton.

It's called taking a pair of wire clippers to your ethernet cable.

AVG for me. And you might want to add Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your comp.

Try putting a condom on your ethernet jack.

Both are about the same. Both are resource hogs. AVG's good. But the major drawback with free antivirus is pretty much no support. If you get a virus with the free AVG, you're pretty much fucked.

Have to agree with the Doc.
However I have noticed my PC slow when AVG started up a scan.
Need to change the settings so it runs at a different time.

If you have to choose, chose Norton.

Norton is a colossal resource hog, and uninstalling it can be an absolute bitch. I'll never install that shite on one of my systems again.

Get whatever's cheapest, then get rid of it and install AVG free or go buy Kaspersky.

Norton has improved considerably. Symantec usually beats out most of the competition.

Check out all the worthless security suites.

Symantec beats the competition... - Blog - Secunia.com

Also, Norton is getting great reviews from PCmag:

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2333448,00.asp

According to them, "This is definitely the slimmest, most unobtrusive Norton ever. Its protection is top-notch where it counts, though antispam and parental controls are still weak. As the best all-around security suite to date (I'll be installing it myself), it's our new Editors' Choice."

This! I just got rid of some crapware that was hijacking all of my websearches. MBAM was the only thing that could find it. Not only is it now a permanent part of my arsenal, but it may very well become the first thing I reach for, when there's a problem.

If they won't give you the choice of no antivirus, then get the Norton. McAfee is a virus. One web comic I read is made by a guy who used to work for McAfee. He said they always used Norton AV at the McAfee offices, when he was there.
