Been working on this off and on for a couple of months. It's a composite of the Hasbro Sidearm Sideswipe and the blue repaint from DOTM (mostly just the blue windows taken from it). The whole thing was stripped of flames and the original silver and completely done over and detail painted to make it look like the CGI render on my calendar.

It's 97% complete. Still need to paint the guns and work out something for swords. But, he looks like what he was going to look like, so it's posting time.

Painted many of the molded details to bring them out (especially on the arms). Also took the wheels off and painted the brake pads. I point that out because I think it turned out nice.

Help requested! Anybody have any ideas for the swords? SS's hands can hold 5mm pegs, so modding existing weapons is viable. I have an idea, but I figured I'd ask and see if anyone can think of something really simple I haven't. Cheers!

Wow, this looks great! I just picked up an extra DotM blue Sideswipe for this very thing as well. Those details are nice, too - icing on the cake. You really did a nice job with this, and it's always great to see your work, bud :)

I know, I'm always a little surprised and pleased when I actually get close to finishing something, too!

Nice paintwork Clay! Of all the silver SS's I've seen, yours is the shiniest one yet. :)

As for the blade, do you have any concept art to go off of?

Yeah, I've got a large picture of this render on a calendar. The swords... actually aren't complicated. They're basically two triangles at a 60 degree angle over his fists. I can make that with styrene and use 5mm pegs to attach them, but if somebody else knows of something simpler, I'd probably go for that.

I had actually thought that a more creative solution would be to cut out the air intakes on either side of the grille (on what would be his forearms) and attaching the blades there, which would actually be more accurate, as it's roughly where his blades project from in the movie.

Speaking of the grille, are you planning on painting it black and the Corvette emblems with their red and white?

This looks great! Awesome paint job!

How hard was that to do? I always notice those in several TFs and have thought about just sticking a brush between the spokes...

That's... not a bad idea. I'll tinker with the remains of the blue one to see if I can get something like that to work.

No on the grille - I tried it initially with a black base coat, but couldn't get it to come out right in the end. Might do the emblem, though.

It's not hard to do - it's just disassembling it thoroughly to get to the part. In the case of this mold, I had to use a soldering iron to heat the pins that the wheels are mounted on and then gently pulled them out. Isolating the wheels from the brakepads underneath also let me paint the wheels cleanly as well.

It comes and goes. I enjoy doing this kind of stuff, but don't force myself to do it when I don't want to. It's part of the reason it takes me forever to finish anything.

    Cool!

One minor gripe: I believe the disk brakes should be red, not gold...

How did you paint the figure overall? Airbrush? Spray paint?

    I love the paint detail.

I have a small suggestion for the swords. I suppose you could try making them from a ROTF Soundwave; try using the satellite panels and cut it as much as possible so that it could fit and attach inside the door pieces in alt. mode. Also, since SS could hold 5mm pegs, mod the swords to have a suitable post.

I'm just suggesting, gonna try it out myself sometime soon.

All the car exterior parts are airbrushed. Most of the robot parts were airbrushed black and then painted with drybrushing. Mostly.

Booyah, working sword mount! Obviously not finished, but I'm pleased so far.

I've been meaning to make swords for my Takara Sidearm SS. I was thinking of using pop cans. The styrene is probably a better idea as the cans will be quite sharp.

Also, as a side note. A while back I discovered that you can actually fold the front foot peg in until it's almost invisible. It then really looks like he's standing on his wheels!

The figure is very well balanced this way, so I have a strong suspicion the designers intended this, and it just never made it into the directions.

Last pictures I took before mailing. It's in Cliffy's hands now (literally and metaphorically).

What did you make the swords out of? And how? I've ever modded a figure but this looks too cool to not try. Would you say it was easy or difficult to do?
