Diamonds list for items shipping August 2nd is available!

For myself, it looks like it's only one title this week.

    DC Comics:
    52: Week #13 (of 52)

    What's everyone else getting?

    Fantastic Four #539
    Moon Knight #4
    Uncanny X-Men #477
I might pick up the Ultimate Extinction TPB
Wow, this would be a light week even before CW started.
Actually, it's more of an average week since i'm also picking up last weeks Daredevil #87 and Black Panther #18 which were missing last week.

    DC
    52 WEEK #13

    Marvel
    UNCANNY X-MEN #477

And that's it. Wow, really light week. Still, Uncanny X-Men is out this week, and it's become one of my favorite books since Brubaker came onboard. I might thumb through New Excalibur, but that one's off my regular list for good. I gave Tieri a shot to see if he could make the book more compelling than Claremont, and he failed.

Why should we all buy INVINCIBLE? Can you give a run-down on the plot and why it's so recommended?

So, here's a brief synopsis of Invincible:

Superman (he's essentially Superman, anyway) comes to Earth as its savior. He falls in love, has a child, and forms the Justice League of America. His son, Mark, begins to exhibit superhuman powers; basically, he's a younger, and proportionately weaker, Superman. The first half of Invincible is Mark, as Invincible, figuring out how to be a superhero while also balancing the rest of his life (family, friends, superteams, etc), and being mentored in heroing by his incredibly cool father. It's essentially everything you loved about Ultimate Spider-Man before it became bogged down with continuity and crossovers.

(Oh, and oops, Superman is actually here to CONQUER the Earth, not save it. He comes from a race of Supermen that are bent on taking over the galaxy; this is revealed when he murders his entire JLA, in order to remove Earth's greatest defenses. Mark, through getting his ass kicked shortly thereafter, convinces him to leave Earth. A great story later, Mark becomes designated by his father's homeworld as the "Superman" in charge of Earth for the next 150 years, before the invasion comes.)

That's the PRIMARY plot, really. A "What if Superman wasn't really here to help?" world. What's REALLY great about the comic is the writing, and the fact that, more often than not, it KNOWS that it's a highly implausible comic. As such, the heroes villians are (knowingly) over-the-top and goofy when they work in the scenario. However, when we get to the serious storyarcs (anything with Mark's father going rogue, or the recent arc, with Angstrom Levy) is written as a perfectly serious superhero piece.

I don't normally advocate this, but do some snooping online, and download the first 5 or 6 issues. You'll fall in love with the series and crave more. If you don't like it, well, it didn't cost you a dime...but, if you're like me, you'll feel that it's well worth your money.

I'm going to skip the shop this week. Ult. Spidey is the only title I want and I'm not going out of my way for one book.
