With the exception of all TF combiners and the Voltron that flies in space, why is it that when any robots or human driven robot vehicles(Power Rangers,Japanese Anime, you get the idea)combine they have to fly 100 feet into the air or while in high-speed motion? Wouldnt it make more sense to combine on the ground while in close proximity to each other instead of being a flying target or moving at the wrong angle and missing the connection port? And now I'll stand back and watch the fireballs....

Because that's how japanese movies work. It's all about effect and drama.

    Thank You!

That works for me and I thought about it and you're right because it would be pretty boring otherwise.

Yup - it would be like watching someone park their car. If their car was a giant robot part.

    Anime Drivers Ed....

It would be kind of funny to watch them all try to parallel park at the same time.

I thought this as well. And was very curious to how Devastator would combine in ROTF. He started off in all vehicles and on the ground. Didn't look to shabby to me!

    You watch the NASA Channel?
If things went as slow as they do docking a shuttle or fixing a telescope, the hyperactive tots would die of boredom.

Combination shots are usually stock footage... so having it take place in the air/star field/speed line zone/Tron grid, is necessary. Think of it as cheap trickery.

The only series I didn't mind this so much was Mighty Orbots... because I just loved the animation and music. Saber Rider wasn't so bad either. It was always cool to hear Cullen give the little transformation speech.

To much stock footage makes for a dull show. Examples: Super Link, Galaxy Force, Filmation shows.
