So I've been kind of working on this for a while, bit by bit. While the FansProject Bruticus set is pretty sweet, I really wanted something in a larger scale to go with the collection.

Ages ago, I posted an Onslaught WIP (he's still on the go), but more recently I started putting together this Blast Off. The obvious choice would have been a Classics Astrotrain, I know... but for some reason I couldn't get this idea out of my head. I like this mold because although it's larger, he still seems a big on the skinny, fragile side... because Blast Off was never much of a bruiser. :)

I still have some work to do, including splitting the canopy, and gluing it in place on either side of the nosecone. I'm also considering having the point of the nosecone actually attach to his forearms, to better match Blast Off's design, and to cut down on his shoulder span. As well I'd like to beef up the rear of the shuttle where the thrusters should be. For now, that vertical fin is just a place-holder.

I've made some minor mods to give him a fairly articulated Bruticus Arm Mode. I don't know yet if I'll use the integrated hand, or give him some bigger, more menacing mitts. You can also see my Brawl-to-be in the pics for size comparison. The only one I haven't figured out a mold for yet is Vortex...

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys! Still lots to do! :)

I don't have any pics of them standing together, but here's the old pic of Onslaught. I've since made a few small new adjustments, but overall he wouldn't look much different.

Damn if that isn't perfect. I wish I had seen this before I pooled together three Armada Jetfires to make a Blast Off. :D

Here's a question... I was originally thinking of using wings that look more like space-shuttle wings, but the Crossovers Yoda wings were so handy, with the built-in hinges and connection pegs and stuff.

Should I stay with these wings (which have a sort of futuristic space-plane look), or try to find something with more of a "shuttle" style? Should I go MORE G1, or embrace the difference? Opinions?

With some minor clipping and sanding I think these could be very convincing as shuttle wings. At least from the angel I can see them at in the photos.

Maybe, but I think the shape is just a little too different to be "authentic" shuttle-style. They're very flat, and don't travel as far up the length of the fuselage towards the nose, like shuttle wings do. But maybe rounding some of the edges will be a good middle path?

I think you could be using Mach's (That Landcross space shuttle ) wings.
And I think I have an oversized spare available which probably will be perfect for your project.

I'll check this out and I'll let you know.
