I've read a lot of post about Classics Megatron's colors and how Hasbro had to brighten it up because of regulations etc.

Today at my local Toys R Us I stumble upon the Star Wars toys and see these things:

Now both of these toy blasters are produced by Hasbro. What gives? Why do Transformers get the funky colors and not Star Wars?

That's not what I'm refering to. The color of the rest of the gun is all black, yet we get funky translucent colors plus an orange tip scope.

Hasbro's reasoning is anyone's guess. I can tell you that the law only requires orange caps, and a bright color on the side of the gun. The choice of colors was completely up to Hasbro.

I thinkthe question is more along the lines of "why can Star Wars get away with JUST an orange tip, while TF guns [Megatron in particular] is brightly colored all around?"

What's odd is they are both produced by Hasbro.

The clear green parts could definitely have been done in a different color. I say red or light purple might have worked. The rest of the color scheme I can live with.

And is the orange tip thing a law for all toy guns? Cuz I'd think that the rest of the gun looks enough like a toy that it doesn't really need the orange tips.

Based on the Botcon 'design decisions' panel, Hasbro wanted to avoid the possibility of legal difficulty as much as they could, so Megatron got orange caps, an unrealistic weapon shape, and bright, nonmetallic colors.

The Star Wars weapon has different priorities, which appears that it's meant to be as close a replica of a science fiction weapon as possible, within legal and manufacturing limitations.

I personally can live with the orange tip thing. If that's the law it's the law. I'm not too found of the wing's being painted over translucent plastic. It's such a large part that is subject to chipping.

I'm still trying to figure out how to take apart this thing to repaint it.

Didn't they also say they thought it wouldn't get past legal even with those colors, but it did, on the first try?

I'm okay with it. Since he has two Mini-Con ports, my story for him is that the Mini-Cons "powered him up" hence the neon green. Now he has more power than ever!

Aye, unless the barrel itself is orange, like Laserbeak. The idea is that if the toy was pointed right at you, you would know immediately it was a toy by seeing the tip.

In which case you could relax until a BB is shot at your eye:drunk

I think it might be tied with the story coming from the Botcon Hasbro reps, where, apparently, they kept referring to him as a "blaster. Not a gun, guys. A blaster."

just unscrew the leg halves, the leg covers are just sitting in a groove that opens when you split the calves.

I honestly wasn't sure myself, but I always start by just removing every screw I can see. So I was just doing that and when the screws were gone, it all came easily apart! warning though, the pins are a major bastard to knock out of this guy. I bent a half dozen nails cause the pins wouldn't budge! I ended up getting him totally seperated except for taking the wings off the triggerguard... but its all good, I've managed to work around that only hang-up :)  I hope to have him completed by Weds.

sorry for the derail guys :lol

Yeah, I noticed they were quite careful to avoid the "G" word most times.
