Hey guys ok first of all im not sure if im posting this in the correct section... I need all you champions out there to give me some ideas for how i should set up my collection.. pics would be awesome.. I recently purchased my first home, in it i have an aprox 19' x 10' room im dedicating to my collection. I have over 140,000 pieces.. some boxed but most loose complete.. everything from diaclone-g1-headmaster-masterforce-victory-zone-robots in disguise-armada-cybertron-energon-animated-the movie and also a full collection of Takara Brave and Eldoran along with early Godakins and also customs. Id love to find an easy/cheap way to have them all in inclosed shelving.. thats where i need the ideas!!! If anyone doesnt mind showing me theyre collection or giving me ideas on how to showcase mine it would be much appreciated. thanks alot.
First off: Wow. That's big. Second: 140,000 pieces, 14,000 or 1,400 pieces? I would not doubt any of those numbers, it's just that it conflicts with your collection count underneath your avatar and ebay button. But, right, yes, how to do it. Well, what kind of guy are you? Old school: Put them all in one really big chest with no order whatsoever, also add micro machines and lego. Captain Literal Retentive: Put them all on shelving units, adjusted for height, in order of appearance, and then appearance by continuity. Print out and laminate name tags for all shows and appearances for each character. Never ever touch them or allow anybody else to handle them. An adult man who is OK with his toy collection: Diarama - biggest bots at the back, Cons v Bots, fibre optic wire from the ceiling to suspend the seekers and Sky Garry; optional MISB toys decorate one side/corner. Or, give them to me.
whoa i had a real bad case of stupidity 1400 is the number! id say im a mix of captain literal retentive and the adult man ha. My old displays were by series and size but i hated it being so cluttered.. another words id have shelves that were like 6-7 figures deep if you know what i mean.. kinda defeats the purpose of a display if you cant see them.
19' x 10'?? Wow that's big!? I'm in a similar situation although the size of the room is more modest (more like 12 x 8)... I was thinking of buying some cheap enclosed bookcases and trying to convert the doors into windows with some creative circular saw work and cheap transparent plexiglas. So far I haven't found the plexiglas...cheap, anyway. Or safety glass. Some people say that sticking a Swiffer sheet onto the bottom of each shelf piece (so that it's above a shelf of figures) works...charge the Swiffer sheet by rubbing it against itself. Haven't tried it, but that may be an option. I have a long way to go on my collection room...painting, sanding, removing redundant wiring (telephone and electrical)...then the shelves...all in due time. My collection slumbers in deep polystyrene darkness right now.
sadly yes... i was actually going to ask you what some of your collection is in, dj, the ones that are inclosed.
Feel free to browse thru these if you want (if you already haven't) Collection Galleries Looking forward to seeing your collection. Feel free to start a new thread when you're ready to post it.
I have the same dilemma with how to display my figures too and I don't have nearly as many as you do. Right now, mine are displayed by character with Cons on one side of the room and Bots on the other. Of course, some characters have more figures than others especially Optimus, Megatron and Starscream among others so I grouped others together with how they might have something in common. I've got Soundwaves on a shelf with various incarnations of his minions or Unicrons grouped with Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourges. Also, have Prowl, Bluestreaks and Smokescreens grouped together and Cliffjumpers and Bumblebees together for example. Of course then, Cyb. Scourge doesn't really fit in with Unicron or Cyb. Buzzsaw with Soundwave so I have a beast con shelf and a Misc. Con plane shelf. This is the best way I've found to keep it at least a little clutter free, but I may decide I don't like it and change it all up again. I hate being a perfectionist. I hope this helps.
Do you have a room you are going to use for your 1400 transformers ? ..... what kind of place are you looking to diplay them in ? and how big is the area ?
A finished basement its a little over 13' x 11' i think. Like i said earlier id love to be able in have shelves that have glass/clear plastic fronts so the tformers are enclosed. but i think im going to have to custom make the shelves.. i plan on painting the wall behind the tformers so you could see a background behind them, "home sweet home" hint hint. I envision the shelves to be like the ones in fiend6669s collection. but i wanna figure out some way to enclose them. any ideas???
Seems a silly question, but do you have Ikea in the US? Or an equivalent hardware/supplies emporium that specialises in having an inexhaustible variety of shelving - different woods, by different fixtures, by different depths and heights? Essentially, you customise the shelves in your head and can pretty much find a near-enough set in their commercial warehouse. Then again, I don't have a fraction of the number of your toys and mine are spread all over the flat in an epic war.
This is what I did.... http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...collection-display-now-plexiglass-lights.html no where near your collection size, but you can at least get an idea of my display aesthetic (Autobots typically in Alternate Modes, Decepts in Robot, Alternator robot behind similar alternate mode of same mold, etc.). I custom made the cabinets. You could defintely consider built-ins along a wall with lighting and such, either in cabinet or track spot lights from the ceiling.
