Yeah, I know...ironic, ain't it? I always found it amusing that Hot Rod as a vehicle was a futuristic sports car, so he technically didn't qualify as an actual hot rod. There's some heavy irony for you.

    But I digress...

I mention this almost every time there's another fantasy thread about what kind of vehicles you want Hasbro to make as Transformers. I want to see more classic and antique cars (especially hot rods and classic sports/muscle cars) and vintage vehicles -- a whole line of them would just be freaking awesome.

So the purpose of this thread is 2-fold:

    1. What other classic/antique cars/vehicles would you like to see if Hasbro produced such a fantasy line for adult collectors or as they continue to drop them randomly (and rarely) into current and future lines?

    2. Please help me create a complete list of classic hot rod-type toys and vintage vehicles Hasbro has released to date as Transformers (Takara TFs included). I'm trying to complete my own themed collection of these, so I need to see what I'm missing.

(I am not including any 80s TF toys based on vehicles which weren't considered "classic" cars until after 2005.)

Here's a list of those which are currently known:

    - Micromaster Hot Rod Patrol:
Hot Rod Patrol - Transformers Wiki
    Big Daddy
    Greaser
    Hubs
    Trip-Up

    * Also released by Takara as "Micro Trailers Hot Rod Team." Details currently unavailable on Japanese packaging and toy variations.

    - G2 "Laser Rods":
    Laser Rod - Transformers Wiki
    Electro (also Takara release "TRF-3")
    Volt (Takara release "TRF-4")
Sizzle (Takara release "TRF-6" and alternate name "Firebot")
    Jolt (Takara release "TRF-5")
    * Details currently unavailable on Japanese packaging, toy and name variations.

    - G2 "Axelerators":
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Axelerator
These are the hot roddiest toys Hasbro has ever made.
    Skram - Chevy Corvette Stingray
    http://www.tfu.info/1993/Autobot/Skram/skram.htm
    Windbreaker - Chevy Camaro Z28
    http://tfu.info/1993/Autobot/Windbreaker/windbreaker.htm
    Rapido
    http://www.tfu.info/1993/Autobot/Rapido/rapido.htm
    Turbofire
    http://www.tfu.info/1993/Autobot/Turbofire/turbofire.htm

    - G2 Ransack [Thanks, WeaponX_Customs]:
    http://tfu.info/1994/Decepticon/Ransack/ransack.htm

    - Playschool Go-Bots Racer-Bot Beta [Thanks to shmax for the add]

    - Playschool Go-Bots Racer-Bot Beta (clear) [Thanks, shmax]
    http://www.tfu.info/2004/Go-Bots/Racer-BotBeta2/racer-botbeta.htm

    - Cybertron Downshift
    Downshift (2006) - Autobot - www.tfu.info

    - Classics Mini-Con Oil Slick (Decepticon Dirt Digger Team) [Thanks, mineraljane]
    http://www.tfu.info/2007/Decepticon/OilSlick/oilslick.htm

    - Universe Mini-Con Makeshift (Oil Slick redeco) [Thanks, mineraljane]
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Makeshift_(Universe)
    * Released with a Kmart exclusive 12-pack and individually carded as well.

    - Universe Mini-Con Iron Claw (Oil Slick redeco)
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Iron_Claw
    * Exclusive with an 8-pack only available in European markets.

    - Movie Bumblebee (2007)
1976 Chevy Camaro - Hasbro has released many toys and many redecos of those toys based on this model:
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Bumblebee_(Movie)/toys

    - Movie "Allspark Power" Big Daddy (Cybertron Downshift redeco)
    Big Daddy (2008) - Autobot - www.tfu.info

    - ROTF Ransack
    WWI bi-plane toy FTW!
    Ransack (2009) - Decepticon - www.tfu.info

And we nearly got a Model T Seeker toy for ROTF, which reportedly became Ransack's robot mode. So close, dangit! A TF customizer really needs to make this toy (if they haven't already).

There's also an oversized KO of this toy that's kinda nifty-looking:

    http://mykotransformers.blogspot.com/2010/04/side-tracked-recent-haul-of-kos-45-ko.html

    - ROTF Divebomb (Ransack redeco)
This "Red Baron" homage is one of Hasbro's most inspired repaints ever.
    Divebomb (2010) - Decepticon - www.tfu.info

    - Marvel/TF Crossovers Venom [Thanks, fabexmax]
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Venom_(Crossovers)

    - Marvel/TF Crossovers Carnage (Venom redeco) [Thanks, fabexmax]
    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Carnage

    - "Hunt for the Decepticons" Hubcap
    Hubcap (2010) - Autobot - www.tfu.info
    * Hasbro announced a Hubcap redeco as "Big Daddy" at Botcon 2010, expected to release in 2011. [Thanks, Orio]

    - "Hunt for the Decepticons" Highbrow
    Highbrow (2010) - Autobot - www.tfu.info

    - "Hunt for the Decepticons" Blue Maximus (Ransack redeco)
    http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers...-fails---instructions-reveal-new-toys-170340/
    * 2011 release expected.

+ Other potential toys for this list which are influenced by classic vehicles:

    - Armada Nightbeat (Minicon packed with Sideswipe) [Thanks, B'Bantor]
    A vintage-style motorcycle.
    http://www.tfu.info/2003/Mini-Con/Nightbeat/nightbeat.htm
    * This has also been released as "Search & Destroy Robot" (2004) with the K-Mart exclusive Oil Slick/Crystal Widow 2-pack. And again as Transformers Universe Nightbeat with TFU Ultra Magnus, TFU Treadshot, and TFU Over-Run. It was also recolored as "Gauge" in Japan, which is actually the best-looking alt-mode of them all. (The robot mode, however, is hideous.)

    - Cybertron Lugnutz
I still maintain that with a marginal redeco this would make a great homage to Go-Bots' Cykill.
    http://www.tfu.info/2006/Decepticon/Lugnutz/lugnutz.htm

    - Cybertron Hightail (Lugnutz redeco)
    http://www.tfu.info/2006/Autobot/Hightail/hightail.htm
These are based on modern Harley "touring bikes", but the design is very vintage/classic-influenced.

    - Movie "Allspark Power" Salvage (Dropkick redeco)
    http://tfu.info/2008/Autobot/Salvage/salvage.htm
Although based on a modern Ford truck design, the "Sanford & Son" homage was just plain brilliant and I find it hilarious and surprising that Hasbro made the effort to do a repaint as a gag/reference to a classic TV show (it's the same color and make as the '50s truck in the show), which in turn doubled as a reference to Sparkplug Witwicky's tow truck and garage/junkyard in the Marvel G1 comics.

    * Thanks to shmax.com for the (unfortunately limited) info on the Takara releases for the G2 Laser Rods and Micromaster Hot Rod Team.

I'd love to see an Alternators line of them. Also, some of the G1s and G2s would be great for updates! My Big Daddy needs his Hot Rod Patrol friends!

    Oh, heck yes!

I would love to see favorite G1 characters with a hot rod/classic/antique makeover. Like Kup as a Model T. Jazz as a '50s Cadillac. Cliffjumper as a vintage T'bird. Ratchet as a '59 Cadillac Miller-Meteor (aka Ghostbusters Ecto-1).

And then there was that issue of DDP's G.I. Joe Vs Transformers where the TFs go back in time to 1930's era Chicago, and the Stunticons reformat as b*tchin hot rods, and Prime turns into this:

Yeah, I want ALL those as toys.

Had forgotten about that Playskool Go-Bots Racer-Bot. Thanks. But yeah, definitely slim pickin's. That's why I want to see more of them. And it appears a "hot rods" search tag needs to be added for Movie Big Daddy -- Downshift is in that search thread, but no Movie Big Daddy.

Venom and Carnage had muscle car molds in the Marvel X-over line right?

    Ebay:
how about a 68 camaro, 69 chevelle/elcamino, deluxe size 55 shoebox chevy, maybe a classic mini, magnum pi ferrari, an homage to KITT would be sweet, any classic porsche, bmw 2002. how about more planes like an all prop planes from wwii line? get a p-51 mustang, f6f hellcat, f4-u corsair, japanese zero, maybe a b24 mitchell bomber. quite a few alt modes hastak could take advantage of i think. but unfortunately this is a company that has a product aimed at youngsters so we'll not likely see that stuff any time soon. kids want new and shiny and have no appreciation of vintage and classic.

Yes! Forgot about those too, thanks! Two of my favorites from the whole Crossovers line to date.

I realize that, which is why I mentioned this in my op:

Great suggestions though. I'd buy all the ones you mentioned if they made them. I'm gonna sort through the Radicons forum to see if other fans have been inspired to make their own classic custom TFs.

HFTD Hubcap has a repaint coming out.

Also, a little homage to M.A.S.K.s Hurricane would be kickass.

Thanks! I'd hoped that info was correct. Looks like Ransack's getting another redeco too, as Blue Maximus. Who'd have thunk that they'd try to get so much mileage out of a vintage aircraft toy?

    Yes, it most certainly would.

I would LOVE some "classics" Laser Rods!!! It really would be cool if they started doing some more classics/vintage cars for alt. modes. I've always been a fan of Hot Rods. I'm a car nut, me and my dad have always gone to the local car shows every year since I was a kid.

Some of my favorite ol' skool cars that I would love to see as Transformers: 32 Ford roadster, 49/50 Ford coupe, 53 Ford F100, 55 Chevy Bel Air, 40 Ford Panel Van, 69 Camaro, just to name a few.

Yes! Another one that I overlooked (and actually already own).

Thanks. I knew there had to be other collectors out there besides myself interested in this particular themed sub-genre that has been neglected by Hasbro for far too long. Even kids like cool-looking vintage vehicles and hot rods, but I guess it's not easy for them to fit into current toylines and continuities. I collected Hot Wheels and Matchbox as a kid, and antique/classic-style cars and hot rods were what I wanted most. And it's also the reason that I was instantly attracted to Transformers -- sports cars that turn into robots? Yes, I will have all of them, please!

I also added a few others to the list: Movie '76 Camaro Bumblebee (derp! how could I have overlooked that one!), and the G2 Axelerators.

Armada Sideswipe's Mini-Con Nightbeat is an old school motorcycle similar to Cybertron Lugnutz.

Thanks, I updated the list to include it, along with G2 Ransack and an oversized KO I discovered for ROTF Ransack.
