I'm curious about Jazz...how did the become OP's second in command? He's smaller than Bee, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jolt...

He seems to be a formidable warrior, but not better than others.

Well, with size comes power and strength (mostly).

Not as often as expected. Devastator was killed with one hit technically. Demolishor didn't put up much of a fight at the start of ROTF either.

That's why I said mostly. Looks like the only time size isn't a factor is when it's against Optimus Prime.

-Ironhide is old, and better suited to be in charge of weapons.
-Ratchet is the best damn off-screen medic.
-Bumblebee is a young Autobot scout.
-That leaves Jazz, who is skilled at many things, despite his size.

He can't be second in command if he's never around, and doesn't talk.

I think Jazz's skill, bravery, loyalty, intelligence, and tactics make him number 2.

Skill, bravery & intelligence won't pretect you from a Megatron intent on killing you nor Mr. Bay wanting to screw over the fans.

I think Ironhide more than proved he's not just old and better suited to be in charge of weapons.

According to your list, the only reason Jazz is 2nd in command is because all the other Autobots are assigned other things.

None of those things you've listed seem to even outmach Bumblebee

When it comes to TF's, size sometimes has nothing to do with strength.

Well, yeah, sometimes. Like I said, for example in case of Optimus Prime, he takes on bigger Decepticons.

But generally speaking, the size does matter. If it didn't then poor Jazz would have had some chance against Megatron before giving him "two pieces" of himself.

Also... size/strength does not equal to level headed decisions. Jazz might have a more meager stature, but that doesn't mean his brain can't function.

    - BB is way too cocky [Jazz is too, but less], far too emotional and trigger happy, he fits better for a raw fighter.
    - Ironhide is a goddamn lunatic [a heroic lunatic, but a lunatic nonetheless] whose specialty is heavy-weaponry, he is more fit for [duh] heavy-weapons guy.
    - Ratchet is [despite being the most right-minded there besides Optimus himself and the most intelligent there] a non-fighter, he prefers standing back.

    - Jazz is the smaller, so he isn't much fit for a infantry-man like Ironhide and BB, but is way too cocky and violent to stand in the back, so he has a nice mix of violent traits and non violent traits, making him a good choice for a second-in-command, the others are either too violent or too pacifist.

I do think it was an ill-advised pick of First lt [Ratchet should have that rank], but I can see why he picked.

1.) Probably by skill, intelligence and overall just proving himself to Optimus. You know, the usual things that get people in the second-in-command position. Same way that Gibbs became Jack Sparrow's right-hand-man. Or Rhinox being Primal's go-to-guy.
2.)Yes, he is smaller than Bumblebee (barely), Ratchet, Ironhide, Jolt (barely). This is relevant...how...? Size has nothing to do with skill or being chosen to be someone's second.
3.) Yes, he does seem to be a formidable warrior. But we barely got to see him test his metal, so I don't think it's fair to compare him to the other Autobots in that regard. Plus, he took on Megatron. And beaked him until the moment he was ripped apart. I didn't see any other Autobot attempt to fill his shoes.

    ZING!

I think that having Megatron kill Jazz is probably one of the least "screw over the fans"-things that Bay might've done. ;)
