Exactly. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I'm just saying...

If I've just come home without a leg from Iraq, the last thing I would do is play a fucking war game.

Play games for escapism. Not to remind you of the horrors you've just witnessed. This whole story suck pretty bad.

We play with a guy who served in Afganhistan and Iraq. Lost a few good friends and was injured by a hand grenade. He seems fine to me. It's those who are shell shocked that shouldn't play the game.

I'll agree with REDLINE. I'm surprised they put themselves in that situation. I feel that it's still a tragedy. Also it's good that they didn't hurt anyone else.

Stuff like that is fuel for the anti-video game activists.

Actually when we were playing with him yesterday I was going to ask him if anything like this phases him. Got too wrapped up in his war stories to ask him though. He should join TFW.

Something tells me Jack Thompson's going to respond to this with another one of his "VIDEO GAMES ARE TEH REASONZ WHY AMERIKA SUKS!1111!!1" rants.

Anyway, I feel sorry for the guy. My condolences towards his friends and family.

I was thinking about that too. Some of the stuff he was talking about was crazy. He seemed pretty well adjusted despite what happened to him.

Wow, that's awful, but I agree, he had no business playing a war game if he had PTSD.

    Why?
Really? So you know what it'd be like to come home from combat and how you'd react?

What if it's hard to turn it off? What if you're having trouble coping with the feelings--feelings that a civilian can never understand--and the video games are a way to blow off steam, to help focus some of the leftover frustration and anger?

Point is, you don't know. Hell, you don't know that CoD 4 had anything at all do with what happened. Just as easy to argue that the game gave him an outlet that helped minimize the ultimate fallout. Not saying that's the case, not at all, but you can argue it as easily as the converse.
Do you understand how PTSD works? At all?

And if he has no business, who else should we rule out from playing video games? Or is it just the soldiers and Marines we send overseas?
"Suprised he put himself in that situation." Wow.

You understand that he didn't create the situation that maybe set him up for this?

But hey, this might help out the Jack Thompsons of the world, and that's clearly a major concern.

Wow this really sucks for the guy. I have never been to war but I have lived through some bad stuff with my job and sometimes I see things that make me think of the past but I just try to stay away from them. Anyway I feel sorry for the guy and if I was him I might have tried to stay away from this game.

I do--for me, at least. Not for this guy. And there's no doubt in my mind it's an individual thing.

But even if I didn't, your post would still be unreasonable. The bit about not judging someone until you've walked in their shoes is what matters here.
