I got the latest issue of Transformers Collector's Club mag in the mail, and it confirms (pics and all) of what bot Thunderclash will be made from. Cover illustration plus toy pic inside. Can't post pics obviously, but can type the info.

    Energon Rodimus, as widely speculated

Not sure if this is the best place to post it, and haven't seen anyone else post this info yet.

    I mean...it works.

I think I was hoping for something really surprising though.

(How do you like the look of the toy from the pics?)

That's the mold I was guessing/hoping he would be. The alt-mode, bot-mode, and even the head make sense, imo. This set doesn't seem to be as popular as the past couple years sets, but I personally like it. I'll probably never own any of the figures in it though, lol. Maybe I'll be able to get the set, if not go, next year. I'll be out of college by then.

They're REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel for molds this year. In fact, they've gone straight through the cellar floor.

Now, will somebody explain to me why the hell Energon Sharkticon hasn't been repainted yet?

Bummer... I detest that mold. :(  But I'll wait to see it before coming down on it too hard. Maybe the deco helps. FP always does great paint apps.

Sigh..... so far this set has only two winners in it in my opinion: Flak and Scourge. Logically, as the bad outnumbers the good, I should really cancel my order. But I can't help but think I will eventually end up wanting the set after all, and would regret not getting it while the gettin' was good.

Bios are Shatteredverse Dirge, Sky Lynx, and Ravage (Walky's Ravage Twitter is apparently now canon)

Thunderclash looks good to me, the colors fit the color theme of Kup and Flak pretty well IMO. I'm partially colorblind, so take a grain of salt with the following. Blue head, white chest, gray (maybe teal?) torso & legs, and looks like some gold or light brown on the feet area. Hard to tell since one leg is obscured by Kup and the other is bent partially out of sight.

I am quite happy with this year's set overall. The only molds I already own are Scourge/Sideways and Flak/Scattorshot, and the new heads make them different enough that I don't feel like I'm buying a repaint.

Agreed. The Botcon set as it turns out has been a bit lackluster.

I want to be kicking myself for picking TFcon instead, not going "I made the right choice"!

having yet to receive my issue yet, I wonder if there will be significant paint app differences between this and K-Mart Exclusive two pack version (Checkpoint???).

Though it wasn't realistic, I was still hoping for a Leader Cybertron Optimus repaint

I was hoping for a large figure for Thunderclash, but, at least he'll be in scale with Skyquake.

I can't wait to see the pictures! :D

    No...

Checkpoint is almost all white with some minor black parts and a few scattered paint aps (lights, warning stripes etc).

No teal or gold or whatever shade of red.

In the spirit of people who steal new figs from Chinese factories, I've decided to put up a blurry cell-phone pic of Thunderclash. I feel it should be okay as an excerpt for "review purposes" under fair use, plus it's small and blurry. However, I will remove it if FP objects.

EDIT: pulled the pic. I still think it would be covered under fair use, but I'll go with the flow.

Not the worst mold in the world... at least Energon Prowl isn't appearing in the set.

    *shudder*

EDIT: Better pull that pic down, bro. That ain't going to be kosher.

    Edit:
Yeah, that pic should not be posted.

Thanks for sharing man! I was hoping for Fattimus personally (vehicle mode would look great as TC) but this is cool! I can't wait for this set.

For all of those who detested my bashing of Flak, I just wanted to check in and say: Yep, I hate Thunderclash, too!

There is now officially a set worse than 2005. Ranked, in order of my preference: 2007, 2008, 2006, 2005, and waaaaaaaaaay below that is 2009.

The order of my "like the most to like the least" list. This year has really dropped the bomb. Though I won't blame FP because, hey, it takes two to tango, for all we know Hasbro could have shot down some stellar idea they had. That panel is FULL of hardcore fans ... they could *NOT* have wanted this set as their "25th Anniversary Convention" set. Unless Alvarez has really let himself go!
