    Hi again,

I wanted to try the popular head mod for Galvatron but I didn't really want to cut up or do anything permanent to my figure - at least initially.

What I did instead was make a mold of the original flip up mask and then make alterations to the copy.

It looks a little rough in the pictures, but it's a solid proof-of-concept.

From the base mask, I used some milliput to extend the bottom of the helmet. The end parts wrap around the shoulders of the head-master and clip into the little divets that allow the shoulder ball-joints to move.

The fit is solid and there's enough flex for it to slip on and off easily.
There's also still plenty of room in Galvatron's chest to store it - even with the original mask still in there.

All that's left is a bit of gap filling, refining and then making a new mold so that I can get a perfect cast in plastic, with plenty of flex.

    Thanks for looking :)

No offense to you I like your idea it just seems to me that the mask and the head should be one. His face is just too far back from the mask.

No offense taken; I know what you mean. I'm waiting for a decent 3rd party stand-alone head to be announced. This is more of a play-around project to see what works with this figure.

The mask here sits flush against the face - actually closer than the flip-up mask, as I have removed about half of its thickness. I don't dare to take off any more, as it will become too fragile : /

I could make another copy and take it to its absolute thinnest, but I doubt it would be durable enough for regular handling.

I do like it, it does give the head some much needed articulation but yeah, if you decide to make future versions I'd try and get the mask as flush to the face as you could. Difficult I'm sure, but hell you did THIS already. ;)

    Very innovative. :)

Cheers! I'm going to make another mold and see if I can get it to sit closer to the face by shaving it down further *fingers crossed*

Not really much more to add at this point until I can get some better material to make a mold. The smooth-on stuff isn't readily available in Canada, so it's expensive.

So far I've made 2 copies and I'm fairly happy with the result. For super-detail I'll have to wait. Without tooting my own horn, Galv looks way better on my shelf now. I'm surprised that we haven't seen a rush of 3P designs for a separate head already.

Thanks for the interest, though. I will update when there are any new developments :)
