I molded my second try at a Cliffjumper head. This time the scale is just right for Classics Cliffjumper. I decided to give him the full curve of the helmet at the back for the first couple because IMO it looks better, but this does stop the head folding back in car mode. On the next cast I will make one that has the back filed off to let it pivot like the original head.

And with the BFG I made before (its a bit rough because it was molded with plaster).

    Looks good, man.
I think with a little more refining, you could take away that rough look.
It would blend in with the classics style much better.

Nice face sculpt? I know it's going to come off as "mean" but I don't care. I can't tell what kind of expression you're going for. It looks like a mix of "I smelled a fart" and looking at his cheeks, they look like they're stuffed with food. And one side of the helmet is wider than the other. So yeah, overall, pretty rough.

I admit that the surface is rough. In person it looks almost as good as a real head, I am just not that skilled at taking pictures.

I am open to suggestions on how to smooth the sculpt before molding it. Remember that the face on this head is half the width of my finger, making it hard to be precise.

The expression I am going for is a half mouth open sneer in matching with Cliffjumpers bad temper.

    Yeah really! WTF?

I'm sure you could get some Emery Boards & trim them down small enough
to size. Might not make it perfect, but I'm sure it could clean it up a bit.

It's better than I could do..
And looking at your posts it doesn't look like you've produced anything that would really lead one to believe you could do any better.

If you don't like his design that's fine, but there's nicer ways to say it.. come on..

    OP..
I think you CJ head looks great! And since you're planning to make adjustments and such for the next version it'll be great to see how your abilities progress!! :)

Is there any way to make his eyes more angry/determined looking to make the sneer on his face more apparent?

thats the kind of attitude that makes people skittish about posting their work. Theres a huge difference between a critique and shitting on someone's efforts like you did.....

looks good....a little polishing up and youll have a winner.

I have respect anyone who tackles sculpting because it's just downright tough. I think this is a really great start. I'm not sure myself how to smooth out the face though. I usually cut nail files down to smaller pieces and sand the smaller surfaces. It's a P.I.T.A but it's worked for me so far.

Don't let anyone discourage you. At the end of the day - we are all still playing with toys so who's to talk.

    Nice work.

Seriously C16, what is it with you and putting down other people's take on Cliffjumper? You did the EXACT same thing when you first saw pictures of my custom Cliffjumper head. On August 11, 2007 here at TFW2005, you said:

You were rude about it then and over 2 years later, you're still doing the same thing. Grow up already!

That said, I really like your take on Cliffjumpers helmet odeean. The face does need work but it's in the ballpark. I prefer the straight faced(neutral) look so that it matches my other Transformers but your attempts at emotion are commendable.

His face looks like he's trying to swallow a potato :D
but the helmet and BFG look awesome! :thumb
You could always try sculpting the helmet around a pre-existing face if it bothers you.
