Seems pretty obvious to me. She still wanted to make a memorial for her friend, even if she didn't have a body.

Cliffjumper's body was cut in half by Megatron. When Arcee found it in the mine, she dropped it because it was a terrorcon and then the autobots escaped the mine just before it blew up with Cliffjumper inside. His body is destroyed, or one would expect.

As for Arcee on the hill, in episode 1, one of Cliff's horns is knocked off when he's punched by a vehicon. This is the only part of his body the autobots find when they arrive and put it together that Cliffjumper is dead. They bury the horn and put rocks on it and that's where they remember him.

After that explosion, I'm not sure there would have been much if anything to recover. Chances are she/they made the memorial in memory of him, and the only part of him actually there is his horn.

Sort of comparable to Harry burring Moody's eye in Deathly Hallows (the book, though I personally take the scarf bit as the movie's take on that scene).

Even if they didn't recover the body, people often go to memorials when they want to "talk" to a lost loved one. It's not that uncommon of a practice, really.

The memorial to Cliffjumper was made in Darkness Rising, Part 1 - possibly within the hour of noticing his signal going offline. I'm thinking that might be important, too; even after finding his body (I do think that nothing was recoverable after the mines' explosion, though), the Autobots probably wouldn't have wanted to make a sudden adjustment to the memorial site.

Bingo. The Autobots simply buried Cliffjumper's horn under the rocks like they would cover a body with rocks.

Off-topic: That scene in the Deathly Hallows book, brief as it was, got to me. I was introduced to Harry Potter with the Goblet of Fire book, so I got attached to starring role Mad-Eye as my favorite character, so the small burial struck a chord in my heart. The fact he had just barely had a few weeks to serve as the new leader of the Order after Dumbledore's death also made it a sad affair.

    Here's a strange thought.

If have bio-mechanical parts like the T-Kogs....... in some fashion could a Transformer be cloned? Could be interesting. Dig up CJs horn and clone him. :D

It's been done in various media before - most notably Dinobot II in Beast Wars. But I personally think this time out, let dead be dead - Cliffjumper's impact on the series is not the kind of thing I'd want to be reduced by having him come back for an episode.

I think the only thing recovered was the broken horn piece Arcee held.

The body fell to the bottom of the mine that Starscream turned to rubble with a bomb that packed a huge punch once it came into contact with the remaining Energon. I don't think there was much (or anything really) left of Cliffjumper's body to recover...

Well let's see Cliffjumper's Body was (in order):

    Smacked around by Vehicons
    Caught in a Energon Explosion
    Stabbed by Starscream
    Infected with Dark Energon
    Sliced in Half
    Dropped from a considerable height
And caught in another Energon Explosion

...So yeah, there's no way his body is recoverable.

I'm surprised I didn't come up with the Harry Potter comparison! Nice job! (Huh... I never thought of that scene like that... But now that you mention it that makes sense...)
