I used to love getting up an watching the meteor showers in August when I lived with my parents. We lived far outside the city so you could really see the sky and had a nice backyard to sit and smoke while you watched.

Now I live in the city and am too damn tired to get up in the middle of the night to look.

I stared for 3 hours and saw 2 meteors. Then I gave up. :/

Darn movies! They raised my expectations too much! The actual thing is (literally) blink and you miss it.

My wife and I call this "our" meteor shower.

The first time we "did it" was on the front lawn on a mutual friend's house after a party. Afterward we were lying there looking at the sky when suddenly there were hundreds of shooting stars (we were pretty far from the city).

We later realized there was this particular meteor shower around the same time every year.

Iwatched it last night, saw some pretty good ones, but the ones we were looking for were mostly small blue ones that weren't very bright at all.

the bright red ones in the south were gret though, we saw about 5 of those

    Phil Plait explains.

Essentially, find somewhere out of the city where there's less light pollution. If there's clouds, you're not going to see meteors. Bring a reclining lawn chair, or something else comfortable to lay back on, so you're not craning your neck. Bring something warm to wear. Bring friends or family, it's more fun that way. Give your eyes time to adjust to the dark. Get plenty of rest beforehand, you're going to be up late.

    lol @ Convoy

My g/f and I drove out last night to see it. God it was hot out last night, I saw maybe 3, same for here maybe 4. She also grabbed her telescope to look at stars and such. This was the first time I ever saw a meteor shower.

I was just outside smoking a cig and stood around for about 20 minutes watching. I only saw one, but damn it was a good one. Lasted about 2 or 3 seconds and was very bright. From Dallas I was looking about 30 degrees off of looking straight up, torwards the northeast exactly, for anyone wanting to try and spot some.

We hardly ever see stars here, nevermind meteor showers.

But now that mental image is burned into my mind...

Don't worry about it d00d. When they get a bit older, all start having glowing eyes and use their mind control rays on you, none of this will matter any more...
