Is a soldering iron my only recourse? I'd like to avoid it if possible. Any other suggestions? I want to put the head I ordered from Aloysia on it.

To remove the factory head? It's that, or drill out the pin. You'll probably do more damage, trying to drill it out.

Honestly, if you just flip the panel the head is up so the head is horzontal, it's really easy to keep tension on the head while you hold a soldering iron to the pin. There's not much chance of overheating the pin, that way. The head of the pin is so large that you're not very likely to damage any of the surrounding plastic.

I used a screw driver. I poped the head off and used a screw to hold the myclone head in place.
