This is just a preview, i will take more pics hopefully tomorrow in better lighting. I just finished this guy too so im letting the paint to cure fully before i transform him. A more in-depth analysis of the project will be included tomorrow with the better pictures so for now enjoy.
Cool. I also have a Classics Thundercracker in the works, though nowhere near where you are, lol. I'm still in the process of taking him, and two Ramjets, apart to kitbash. I'm haveing a little difficulty getting the screws out of the legs to take them appart.
The screws in the legs are giving you trouble? Mine came out easy, its separating the legs after that which is hard because they are glued together. Take a scalpel knife and very carefully stick it in the small gap and slowly pry the two pieces apart. Are you painting the two Ramjets to look like Dirge and Thrust i take it? Do you plan on making the wings for thrust? After making TC im tempted to go ahead and do the same but im totally stumped on how to make those wings for thrust.
I remember hearing about them being glued together, so I'm prepared for that, it's just the screws that have given me trouble so far, though I have been able to get at least one leg's screws out. Yeah, my plans for the two Ramjets are Dirge and Thrust, though personally, I don't plan on modifying their wings to match their G1 counterparts. I'm happy with just repainting them (I'm actually thinking about dyeing them their main colors).
I like it, though I'm not a fan of the painted stripes on the wings, I see the detail and contours fighting the lines of your stripe.
Well done on the paint there... It looks like the factory botcon version, no doubt! Could you write up what you used? Fusion? Tamiya? I've got some spare figures waiting in my project box, to become the prodigal seekers, but I've got plenty of time to think about the correct paint and methodology I want to use... I ABHOR paint chipping, but outside of remolding figures in my own plastic, there's not much option.
Impressive Sonray. You have an eye for details and it really shows on this custom. I like the "classics" wings that you did as well...
I can't get my legs to come undone as well. I may just leave them together. I am eventually goona do the the 2 coneheads. I am going the G1 Thrust wings route.. It'll be a pretty good while! And I have it saved for future reference!
I dont use acrylics, and i try to avoid enamels as much as possible but im not as opposed to them as i am to acrylics. To me, acrylics simply arent strong enough for these types of toys. There are too many moving parts and rubbing joints and acrylics simply lack the strength to fight against chipping in these areas. Same goes for many enamels but they are slightly stronger but frustrating to work with and messy. Thats why i used cellulose car paint for this, and all future projects will be painted with this paint too. Its strong, dries within minutes and you can practically do whatever you want with it. It mixes easily and gives a great finish so long as you use an airbrush (which at the same time gives better adhesion to any paint you use anyway). Only drawback is the price of them but quality work demands quality materials and if you want paint thats gonna last then this is a worthy price to pay. Glad you like the TC anyway, i tried to make it look like an official toy, but added my own modernized/classics line style touches to the g1-inspired paint job. Most noticeably the stripes on the wings and tail fins.
Here are the new pics as promised: Ok so i finally took better pics. I think he looks awesome with the other seekers...now im tempted to do thrust and dirge too.
Hi guys. I just uploaded this to Ebay and added some new pics. Thanks. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110217042730
What he said. ^^ I didnt apply them by airbrush so the paint i used for the lines was different. I used red enamel for the lines, and it happened to be gloss, i didnt have any matte so i had to work with what i had.
