So whilst looking at making a scratchbuild Wideload I stumbled on the Mindset mould whilst out shopping and my mind went crazy!

The only issue was the fact that the missile launcher was mounted too near to be used as a flatbed. Cue pliers, shears, an old credit card, a cut finger and some superglue. I had to push it right back and used a segment of an old credit card to give an effective gluing area.

It's probably the best I've painted yet I think, with lots of little touches and some light weathering to bring out the 'construction' style of the machine.

I also used the legs back to front so there was more of a homage to how the G1 mould had. The blue chest was cool to have still, and the flatbed still works, and you can still pull the missile launchers around.

    I'm pretty pleased :)

Be great to hear some feedback guys!

Thats really sharp! Great use of the mold too, its one of those ones that I don't think anyone saw in it. And the paint is nice and clean too.

Cheers dude! I really had never even thought it until it caught my eye on the peg yesterday!

Little did I know the hassle repositioning the 'flatbed' would be. The heat pin removal didn't work and ended up being 'jobbed' off haha!

It has really opened my eyes to the different uses of different molds!

This is my thoughts exactly. This is a VERY good use of this mold, and you did a nice job with it as well :thumb

Thinking WAAAAY outside the box yields really wonderful results. This is just brilliant, defiitely the coolest and most novel Wideload I've ever seen!

Very nice man. Was never a fan of the character, but I love outside the box customs. This is great and you can instantly recognize who it is.

First I was like... dude? Then I was like... sweet! Awesome out of the box pick here, I would never have thought of this repaint. I love Wideload, one of the first I had, the Classics reissue from 90/91ish. Great paints too, there is no mistaking this chap now.

    Cheers everyone!

I'm on my iPhone so can't multi-quote with ease!

I'm glad everyone's down with the unusual mild choice :)  it was like almost one of those eureka moments haha - I felt so intelligent lol!

I really tried to step to the plate with my painting on this one, Tamiya sprays have been fantastic to use, along with their little pots - learning all the time :)

You know, when I saw listed on the boards I didn't think I'd like it. But it works! I really like your idea. Nice work man! That's one badass dump truck.

Righty ho guys before I sign off and finish this custom, i've got the little matter of making it look spanking on display....

......with it's own little G1 style box!

Just have to take the 'in-transformation pics' to put on the top edge, and when i'm back at work get it printed.

Custom tech specs, layout really helped by Blue Meanie, but this is done with an Illustrator/photoshop collaboration to ensure text etc is sharp!

i'm getting good at knocking these boxes out now too haha!

...on another note, voyager seaspray/deep dive how the heck do I get to the screw behind the crotch for the chest?! cheers :p
