This is a commission custom I did for a continuing customer. It's Sunstorm (G1 mostly with some other subtle details).

Just finished, but this character was a REAL PITA to paint!!

Very nice work. I keep hoping Hasbro will release on of these. If they do I hope it's the same color scheme as yours, maybe a a bit more orange in the yellow though. The white looks brilliant though

Thanks Lucs! You're probably right about a bit of orange in the yellow for the body. The red on Sunstorm's chest is an italian fire orange or something to that effect. I was actually hoping to put some of that in his rocket launchers but I ran out and the hobby store had none!

    Thanks Lordthrash!

Nylar, thanks! I have not experienced any chipping during transformation because this one hasn't been transformed yet. I can honestly say the mass majority of my customs don't have chipping (see my transformation videos on youtube - 6g96gt). I go through extensive preparation work to eradicate potential rubbing and chipping. At best I might get a tiny rub here or there (but then I take care of that too :D  )

I personally favor hand brush painting over airbrush for the amount of detail and texture you get. Airbrush (as with this one) is okay but there's a tremendous loss of some good details that you could've had if you used hand brushes.

Yours is cool man, I like it!

Do you have any tips you could share about your prep process? My first sunstorm is definitely a transformer that will never see alt mode due to my inexperience with the prep stage.

The one I'm working on now I soaked and then scrubbed with 70% alcohol. The paint is adhering better but I feel like there will still be some paint rub in a few places.

Have you checked out my Classics Starscream transformation and then review on youtube? Here's a link: YouTube - Classics Starscream G1 by Xracer Customs

In it, I transform him right on video and then go over it to show you no rubs! I can help you, shoot me a PM.

I always thought SUNSTORM to be more of a Tangerine Orange than yellow.

But nice job on this none the less. :thumb

Superb figure! Looks great. I've done two Custom Sunstorms, used an Acid Storm and a Starscream and found both molds hard, and rather annoying to do. Anyway, your work is cool!

    Hey Gauge, thanks!

Pumpkin, thanks man, this one was done with a 25th ann. starscream. I primed it gray first and then painted on the yellow with an airbrush - I find that using a gray primer is perfect for a nice deep yellow (not to dark as with black primer and not to bright as with white primer). You are right, seeker molds really are quite annoying but they make for nice customs!

This is maybe my favourite Custom Sunstorm I've seen. Love it, really does look great. So clean, nicely done.

Man...this little dude looks factory clean..other than the nice drybrushing..

Bro, there are SOO many ways to prep. And one thing you can never avoid is rubbing or chipping. I mean, it is paint. It just sits on the surface. You can use stronger bonding paints like enamels or lacquers, but they can still come off. Imagine running a key on your car. Automotive paint is by far some of the most durable, but it can still come off...

But I use none acetone nail polish remover and it has been great for me.

Hey Sunstorm, this figure is long sold man and I don't have one underway at this time but I can send you all kinds of prep pictures and all and a written guide? Let me know!
