I am pretty much a G1 lover...up through the movie. Season 3 to me, while entertaining, lost its direction...except for the Technobot. I always had a fondness toward them for some odd reason. Like a lot of people, my original collection went away with my teen years to a garage sale of doom. Strafe was always the one I missed most for some reason. So finally I got out the dremel, picked up some magnets, and went to town. Skyblast had his shoulders removed (as well as the nose cone) and magnets set in their place. The new cannons are left over from Voyager Energon Megatron (someday I'll finish that Galvatron bash). His wings will attach to the back of his legs as soon as I find the proper sized drill. Some feedback would be nice before I enter the painting stage...
Sentinel Pax - yes, I have that planned out if you have not seen it yet: http://copland.udel.edu/~kalron/computron.jpg CryoPrime - I'm not sure yet, I would like to use some Apoxy Putty and add pegs that will allow him to hold them in Bot mode.
Nice! Great choice of mold for Strafe! I like your Technobot line-up too... it totally "works", though I might be tempted to sub in Energon Jetfire for Scattershot, rather than Cybertron Starscream (though he's not a bad choice either). I've been toying with ideas for a Computron myself, but I'm not very far along... Looks like a promising bash. Can't wait! zmog
I like Energon Jetfire, but isn't he a Leader Class? What is the size compaired to voyager Galaxy Force Starscream? From what i remember from seeing it in stores, I always thought that mold was quite large (have sounds and lights and all), but I could be wrong (please correct me, there are a few jetfires on eBay I might want to pick up one) Thanks for all the nods, I hope to finally get to painting (him and shockwave) this weekend!!! FINALLY!!!
Is there any way I can "borrow" this idea for my Strafe custom? I have the same Skyblast figure, but sadly no Energon Megs cannons
Not at all, although I have not actually seen another like this, the idea has been floating around long before I started working on the piece. Just make sure you get a flat connection with the magnets, and if you are using superglue to attach the magnets to the shoulders *REMOVE THE ARMS FIRST*! I did not do this on the first one and his lateral movement locked up as the glue ran through and did more than it should have...had to pry it apart with an exacto knife.
Which Megs is the more rare/expensive one? Energon or Cybertron? And how much can you get those for typically? *Checks prices online*
Energon Jetfire is about the same size as the Galaxy Force Starscream (Voyager Class). Plus his color scheme makes it so you don't necessarily have to repaint a lot of pieces. http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/energon-autobots-166/jetfire-852/
likeing this, what about 2 magnets near the bottom of his back and have the guns there in bot mode, a bit like g1 onslaught, i also think eng jetfire would make a better scattorshot and there is a good digibash of hun-grrr somewhere using cyb ss, that could make a good starting point for the technobots most common enemy?
Satomiblood - The cannons I used were from a TRU Exclusive Voyager class Energon Megs. He is sometimes hard to find and sometimes quite expensive. Although looking at pics of the Supreme class version, the cannons look to be about the same size...you might have better luck finding loose ones of those. Motor_Master - Thanks for the info...I am watching a few now, I might make a change there. chlokai - GF Starscream as Hun-grrr...ohhhhhh. That actually makes sense, especially with the legs. That would be the Terracon that I most enjoyed, even owned that one...hmmmm and doomtron - Thanks! Picked up paint!!!! should be done Sunday!!!!
Energon Jetfire is a little bit bigger than GF Starscream, though most of that size is bulk, not height. A week or so I did a mock-up for a Scattershot using E. Jetfire (this is as far as I've gotten, no other Technobots yet). Nothing's actually been bashed yet. I just used some spare parts, modelling clay and a hobby knife to rig up a head and stuck it on the Jetfire body, but I think it works alright... I also took a picture of him next to Starscream to show scale, but I think the picture turned out sort of misleading. If you have both figures in front of you, Jetfire is convincingly larger than Starsream. http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-customs/repaints-and-minor-mods-4/g1-scattershot-project-test-165313/ zmog
