This is exactly what Classics Starscream should have been in the first place! Beautiful!

I intend on doing the same thing with mine as well as Classics Astrotrain and Megatron. Hey Redline, is that a repaint of Megatron or a Digibash in your sig? Mind on PMing me with the paints you used if it's a repaint?

And Boggs, did you have to sand down or disassemble anything? I've never painted a Transformer before so this will be my first time. I'm hoping to learn off of you. That is amazing work there.

I completely disaassemble him. Be sure to look at the kitbasher's guide on taking out pins, you have to take out quite a few on SS.

No sanding, just used some isopropyl alcohol to take off the existing paint.

    Thanks guys.

Boggs did you happen to primer black before you put your basecoat vinyl paint/die on it? Just wondering because I love the articulate lines of the F-16 and something you did really brought them out.

Actually its reverse. Normally after painting something with panel lines I would clear coat it. I would thin take some thinned down color, darker than what the base coat was, and with a small brush, paint in the lines. Then, after it drys, I would take a cloth and some paint thinner and GENTLY wipe away the excess paint that spilled over the lines. What is left over are nice panel lines.

It takes some getting used to. I didn't clear coat SS because the paint didn't respond to paint thinner, which was helpul because I liked that finish.

Darn, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a mini-MP SS. Really slick.

Don't, it breaks up the fighter's lines a bit...

    dont what?

i think it looks amazing just like it is.
    great job!
that finish looks EXACTLY like the real paint used on fighters.
i used to be on the USS John C Stennis, so i was around F-18's all the time.
    this paint is DEAD ON.

repro labels will top this off nicely! congrats on a one of a kind truly awsome SS!

Oops. You're right. I meant to say F-15 not F-16. Typing too fast to think about it. IN the words of the classic Mortal Kombat game.... OooopsieeEEE!

    New Pics

I got my stickers today, thanks Delta, and applied them to my Starscream. Really made him stand out I think. It would be nice if they were water decals, another project maybe.

If you notice in the pictures, his body is a different color red now. If you go back to my Paint/Dye thread, you will know what happened. Also, on his legs, the stuff made from the denser plastic didn't take the vinyl paint as well so there are some scratches from transforming.

Again, I'm pleased with the way he turned out. I've included some side by side shots with the original version. He will be turning into Skywarp as my next project.

that looks infinitely better than hasbro's version. the only thing i don't like is the piece covering the cockpit chest. something about it being solid read just makes it look odd imo, like it's missing something that's supposed to be there.

You know, I never noticed until I put them side by side that it does look off without something there. I'm not sure I would want to repaint it gray/silver like it was before though, but you're right, it could use something.
