I think the exclusive figure looks like warmed over arse - but I do love the original Cybertron version... it's pretty neat.
Huh. There isn't an existing mold that transforms from armored car into helicopter to robot. For Springer to be a repaint from an existing mold, obviously one form has to be dropped. Springer WAS a Triple-Changer. Now he's not. In the same way Alternators Grimlock WAS a Dinosaur. I could go on.
And for those who are waiting for the new Universe Springer, from one of the Botcon threads it was asked if the con exclusive characters would ever be released in the main lines, due to a lot of people wanting the other 3 'con jets... and it was said no, they're only con exclusives.
It's a good homage. I just wouldn't want it as a true Classics version. Kind of like Cybertron Blurr was a nice homage to Blurr, but he belongs in Cybertron, not Classics. I'd love a good deluxe-sized, triplechanger Springer. One thing that always upset me was that the triplechangers were so damn smaller than, say, the Autobot cars or whatever. They were combiner limb-sized yet always appeared about the size of Inferno. Anyway, if Classics Astrotrain has shown me anything, it's that an updated triplechanger is a viable choice.
Aaron even said at BotCon '06 that they called it Classics in-house, and that was their intended name for the line. Marketing decided that could potentially turn off new fans by implying that they were old toys, so nixed it. But Aaron said, "that's what we want you guys to call it."
Even though I won't ever be getting the toy, I'm just glad Springer got a new toy to his name. With Hasbro using the name again, its a chance that Springer may get a proper Triple Changer update in Classics 2.0. And I don't really get all this complaining - Transformers often change their alternate forms all the time when they are updated. Sometimes its just a different make of car, other times its completely different. Springer is not a unique case.
He does have a coptor mode, though. Point one of those top turret cannons backwards. There're your coptor blades!
yes,the robot and armored car modes do look like springer. but i'd still like to see a triple-changer version later.
The original springer toy was a brick. A brick with a killer sword but a brick nontheless he's the han solo of the 86' transformers movie and he deserves a classic 2.0 or some kind of mainline omage. Sandstorm was the better original toy though. Defineing characteristics of Springer toy: -Sword -Primarily green with yellow and white accents. -Triple changer robot/car/helicoptor -uniquely shaped green forehead plate We don't want more arcees! Make a Springer!
