According to this thread at talk.transformers. Not exactly sure where the pic was taken at but it could be anything from a small toy store to something like a TRU in Hong Kong or the new one in Shanghai. The price tag that was used does seem familiar.

That little sign in the upper right corner of the box reads: "Limited supply, only two per customer." So if that's the case, this store should've had a decent amount of stock if it's allowing two per customer.

Thanks to talk.transformers for the pic.

I'm with you on that one. With this figure being listed as limited at this store in China and TRU.com showing him as a special order I am a little worried though. This could be a limited run to test the desire for more commemorative figures but hopefully he will be easier to come by in a few months.

I don't think this is part of some master plan, only that China makes the toys.

Last year, in Korea, I bought a set of original Constructicons with Decepticon decals and everything, that were in a box trying to pose them as something other than Transformers. Frequently I come across toys in Korea that are just repackaged Transformers. It sounds to me that the Chinese factories have a surplus of these guys and have been trying to get them off their hands.

Really? Where? Are you sure they weren't knockoffs? How much did you pay for them?

Well, it's a bit unlikely those were legitimate Takara products. Knockoffs of the combiners (Devastator in particular, along with Superion, Defensor, and most of Menasor) are exceptionally common. Since those molds haven't been in official production since the early '90s, you most likely picked up a knockoff.

    Look anything like these?

Not saying 100% or anything, but that would be my guess.

Since there has been a little around-and-around with this, you can confirm this has the Soundblaster-style two-tape door, yes?

That picture is from Toys R Us in Hong Kong.

The reason that the "limited stock" sign is there is to prevent scalpers from purchasing the entire stock in the store and flogging them on Yahoo HK at inflated prices.

This scalping problem has been really, really bad over the last few weeks in Hong Kong, and has drawn a lot of criticism levelled at the major retailers, TRU, Jusco and others for allowing people to call ahead and "reserve" the entire wave/shipment before the stock even gets on the shelves.

TRU now has a new policy in place to prevent this, although it seems to be still going on in Jusco. At the moment, Classics Grimlock and Hot Rod have been 100% impossible to get due to a particularly well known scalper "reserving" all stock in Hong Kong.

Good to see that steps are taken to prevent this. I only wish US retailers did that.

Da#* rite about this! "Limited to 1 per person" rule but thank god tat I still managed to get away with 3 pieces. :D

I thought that these were gonna be stuck for a while here just like N.P but they soldout during last weekend & you cant even find a C5 boxed Soundwave ANYWHERE here. Some members of the local toy forum had seen scalpers paying for 15 pieces! Some even brought their friends, family members etc. along so tat they could buy more.

Preventive measures by TRU?? Well, its a big "MEH!!!"

The cashiers still swipe & accept scalpers' credit cards when they turn up FULL FORCE with their carts full of Soundwaves so its NOT helping at all!

    Preventive measures my foot! :thumbdown

There are SO MANY collectors whom havent gotten theirs yet over here.
