Classics. If for no other reason than you can look at it in direct light without needing sunglasses.

The chrome is out of place IMO.

Classics. Chrome looks out of place on the henkei and there's too many different color plastics used on, it looks horrible.

Oh and if you already have Animated Grimlock don't even bother with Classics/Henkei Grim.

I have both versions and like the Henkei one way better. I only have this Henkei along with Astrotrain and Megatron. Decided to only get the really different Japanese ones.

Go for Classics. The chrome is too much of a distraction on Henkei.

Even though the chrome is in the same place as the G1 toy, go with Classics. It's too distracting.

Both are GREAT figures despite all of the hatred for them on these boards. I personally prefer the Henkei version. Don't believe the hype about the chrome being bad. Until you own the figure you can't really bash it because pics do not do it justice. It edges out the classics version.......just barely though.

I have the Classics, and I'm going to be getting the henkei. I don't like the detail in the paint on the classics. looks like it was thrown on there and then packaged while it was wet. So I want the Henkei, plus I'll be getting the Overkill too, but that's because I want an evil grimlock to pose against. If I could get my hands on Shattered Glass for a decent price I'd buy him too.

Oh and the animated version is a much better mold of Grimlock, still not perfect but much better in both forms.

Classics for sure, that and you might save yourself some dough in the process. Henkei has nicer paint on the torso, but the robot mode legs just ruin it.

While I'd go with Henkei on almost every figure, I'd go with Classics on Grimlock. He is a much better shade of grey, and the chrome is too excessive on the Henkei one. The classics one has a darker shade of grey that looks more fitting for Grimlock anyway. I do love this figure and think it's a great new look for him (better than G1 design). The only disadvantages to the Classics one is his dino-head is a lighter shade of grey and it looks a little odd but not too bad. I'm a big fan of the shiny-but-not-chrome gold paint hasbro used on that toy. The only plus to the Henkei one is the autobot symbol on his chest IMO.

I'm sitting here looking at my Henkei and Classics Grimlock side by side and the Henkei version DEFINTELY is a darker shade of gray. The only gray that's lighter on the Henkei version is on the dino arms.

As a side note, the Henkei version is better than the Classics version. The chrome is AWESOME and is NOT as bad as some posters are making it out to be. If you actually own it you'd see that the chrome looks great on this toy. Also, the detail on the Henkei version is better (Autobot symbol on chest in robot mode, red torso in robot mode, painted faceplate in robot mode to make it stand out more, painted fists in robot mode to make them stand out from the rest of his arm.)

DEFINITELY get the Henkei version.....you will NOT be dissappointed. Also, the price isn't an issue. The Henkei version sells for around the same price and sometimes cheaper than the Classics version.

Henkei all the way. Don't fall for the Bad Chrome preaching. I believe some guys here in the boards are even repeating this over and over without actually seeing the figure in person.
