The main point to my picking Rodimus as the mold for this custom was due to the alt modes being almost identical.

I'm fully aware of Prowl and Cybertron Smokescreen as other options, and I'm not above using them should I decide to make a variant, but I feel that with the right mods this can resemble an updated version of Overdrive.

The only issue is making him look less and less like Rodimus. Removing the spoiler, capping the engine and exhaust pipes, getting rid of the maroon and orange in favor of red, black, and silver as well as giving the head sculpt a proper visor and wings are all essential in making him resemble Overdrive.

I honestly think this is one of those customs that you can't really understand until it's totally finished.

I can. when I used the mold for my deadend, I gave him a visor, and removed his spoiler... and when I used it for breakdown, I turned that engine into a hood scoop.

I think it's a pretty versatile mold. More than some people give it credit for.

I mean, shit, there's even a guy that's going to be using it to make Springer.

I can see it too. Another little suggestion to differentiate him from Hot Rod - file down the shin plates and put some new detailing on. That's a nice easy cosmetic mod that won't affect the transformation at all. Another, which as I recall Sculpt-Bot did with his Sideswipe (back before we knew there was going to be one anyway), is to remove the exhaust detailing - which you can mostly do quite easily just by filling the gap between them with putty.

I just checked out SB's Sideswipe. That's really impressive and will give me some ideas of what will and won't work. The funny thing is how Overdrive and Sideswipe are essentially the same color scheme.

Yeah, but a few subtle detailing differences will make all the... er... difference.

I'm good with words, me. :p

Man, I'm really excited to see how this piece turns out. I hope you make all of the Omnibots (perhaps give them more than 3 members? ).

Keep up the good work man :thumb

Encouragement, honesty, and sharing; some of the things friends are made of. :)

That and junk food helps makes a Radicon :D

Also added a new pic of the actual visor I've sculpted on.

Once I sand the trim and hood scoop down, I guess I'll be venturing into paint.

There was a little hangup with the wings, which can wait until the end, but at least the magnets are in place in the forearms.

The visor certainly looks cool. I take it you'll file/sand down the side pipes and hood to shape once the putty's set?

Yes, the putty's definitely set. I did these on Saturday. I just didn't get around to sanding them down yesterday.

I'm going to hand sand these instead of using a Dremel. For some reason, I suck at sanding stuff down with a Dremel. I always take too much off or one side is clearly uneven with the other.

Been thinking of a color scheme...

His three colors are red, black, and silver. I'll be using a light shade of blue for his visor as well.

I think the hood scoop would look better in black. The trim will also be black.

Also, I might actually paint the windows. But I have to test a certain color combination I've had in mind. Might make it more toon-like (although he never appeared in the show - at least I think he didn't because he was just a mail-in promotion).
