(august7th,w.i.p. pics added to post #47) this big bot helped me earn 1st place at tfcon2010.it was a struggle getting him to toronto but well worth it in the end it was basically like going on a trip with "2" small children instead of just my baby girl. with this bot,i didn't want to follow the regular cookie cutter norm of using energon omega as the base figure. i don't consider him a masterpiece either... i also definately didn't want him to be a "actionmaster".imho,if you're going to build a bot anything over a foot tall,go the extra mile and make it "actually" transform. another thing i didn't want to do was to have his base mode simply pieces just sitting close together on the floor, butted up against each other. all i could picture while building him was a scene in the idw comics where he comes down and kicks some swarm tail. a lot of g1 bots died in the making of this bot.he stands at just under 28 inches tall. in alt mode, his tank has been beefed up.it can also go around the oval track ala g1,even through the back side of the base portion like a sort of tunnel. the base has electronic lights and sounds and when you have a scout or legends class figure in the cubby hole in the front, you can have a blue led spotlight him in there. his rocket upper half is scratch built around the bfg that used to reside inside armada unicron. he also has a twin turret platform which can be manned by any deluxe sized bot. back to the electronics, his left arm has a cannon charging up and firing sound. his right arm has a crushing sound. his right hip has a stomping sound. there's also a button that when pressed,it gives you the g1 cartoon intro theme song in all it's glory!! in base mode he also has a few randomly placed leds. coming out the other side. comparison with g1 omega with the last big bot i finished, bruticus.
Like I said before, I love the overall size & build of this thing. Even though I know it's the look you were going for, I still think the paint looks a bit rough/sloppy in spots. Still, a great job.
I like it. Which is odd as I don't really care that much for the heavy weathering effect normally but it makes it look like Omega has been battling non stop for eons, just as it should be. Props for keeping and updating the base mode too.
thanks man. i agree, there's alot of areas i'm not completely satisfied with still but what can you do some times?in the 4-6 weeks leading to tfcon,i was juggling this guy,the sick kids animated blades, new baby,my 2 regular jobs that pay the mortgage........man it feels like i lost a few years in the last few weeks.that's just life i guess give and take.
WOWY WOW WOW. That monstrousity is completely awesome. That is fabulous. I kinda cant get over it. Simply put, This is cool!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations on your first place win, man! And deservingly so, this thing is epic beauty! It was a pleasure to see this IRL, and more so, to meet you at TFCon. Hope you had a comfy trip back midwest, I look forward to seeing you again next year!
WOW!!! That is AWESOME!!! No wonder you won 1st place man, great job! I seeeee... 2 Omega tanks and unicron shoulder pads, annnndd I don't know what else I see... and I don't care either, this thing is awesome!! Think we could get a shot of it with Fort Max?? Also, do you plan to maybe tackle other big bots like Metroplex or Typticon??
Yeah, that figure rocks hard. What the heck am I saying? IT ROCKS REALLY HARD! That is an awesome design, and really unique. You went for everything out of the box that would normally go into an Omega Supreme.
As good as the pictures are.....This thing was 100 times as cool in real life at TFCON! It was amazing to see up close!
Don't get me wrong, I loved the piece overall. I didn't want my earlier comments to come off as rough or too blunt.
