I just noticed this, check this out: Predator team = a team of Decepticon predator beasts = Predacons Clear Skies team = a team of Autobot fliers = Aerialbots Night Rescue team = a team of Autobot emergency vehicles = Protectobots Demolitions team = sort of an amalgam of Constructicons and Combaticons, they really should do another team with 2 military and one construction...(yeah that'll happen... ) Dirt Digger team (is that what they're called?) = a team of Decepticon ne'erdowells = Stunticons cool eh?
I just wish they had gone one or two steps further and made them in sets of 5 or 6 and gave them all the ability to join together like some do already.
I was going to make a new thread, but I guess this is close enough. In regards to he Mini-Con Swoop: In the unofficial story,"The Last Days of Optimus Prime", Swoop is seen adapting to the changing times, unlike the rest of the G1 guys who "go to the west" or whatever. Swoop is also known as the "Veteran." Later, in BotCon's "Reaching the Omega Point", the Veteran is now a Maximal. It's said that the Veteran has changed his body many times, making himself smaller and more efficient. I like to think the Mini-Con Swoop is a half-way point between G1 Swoop and the Veteran. The thought fascinates me.
Sounds a little graspy-at-straws to me, especially when you consider one of those "Aerialbots" is a dragon (Two aerialbots and a terrorcon then, eh? )
Not really - I didn't say the team had to be five jets... if you strip the team to its concept - a mini-team of fliers - That'd be them. Like the Stunticons have 4 cars and a truck, cuz that's what they came up with in 1984. Say someone said i want some stunt-racing crazy decepticons, you might just come up with a muscle car, a motorbike, and a monster truck. basically take the name to someone who's never seen the originals, and have them come up with a new idea. That's what I'm saying happened...
Both stories were written by Simon Furman. "Last Days" was not Hasbro-approved, but Optimus says that Swoop is now called the Veteran. The BotCon story is Hasbro-approved. It's never stated explicitly, but it is implied that The Veteran once served with Optimus Prime. Compared to his comrades, he thinks of himself ironically as a "dinosaur" (i.e. old). "In Earth parlance, the Veteran realized, startled by the unintentional irony, he had become a dinosaur." Plus he flies. Which G1 character is a flying dinosaur? So, no it's never officially, explicitly stated, and it's rather obscure. But it's there.
Remember that these molds were (apparently) not done for the purpose they were eventually used for: they were intended to be released in later waves of the Mini-con "VS" 2-packs in Cybertron, indeed its possible that they weren't even meant to be in "Teams" at all.
Interesting theories, but given that we know these weren't originally intended to be part of Classics, but released as part of the Cybertron Two-Packs... I'd say it's a bit of grasping at straws. Nice ideas though. As for the veteran equals Swoop thing... well, a lot of Furmon inuendos and what not is exactly all it is. Thankfully, the first of those stories was never approved by Hasbro because "The Last Days of Optimus Prime" was very very horrid from what I recall.
that is kinda cool....though ive got my classics minicons setup with my cybertron display for now...seems to work better until i get more sets...
