My latest creation: a head for Legends "Gold Bumblebee." We all know who he was meant to be, so here's Goldbug. To go ahead and answer the question, these should be ready several weeks from now, and will be molded in the proper blue color with silver face paint. Price is $12. This thread is more about the head itself, so please no more talk of buying in this thread other than this first post (send me a PM). This is the prototype, utilizing an original Goldbug face with work done to provide a back half of the head and a base that fits into the Gold Bumblebee "neck."

It is amazing how much difference changing the face makes. He goes from being a figure that has no basis in the mythos to being a very good Classics Goldbug! Also, the figure is fully transformable with the replacement head in place!

7/14/11 UPDATE: Heads are all cast! It will take a few days to paint all the faces, so shipments should begin next week. The how-to for fitting the head is amazingly simple. Just remove the original head (glued on, so you may want to carefully pry it off). Then trim the neck area as shown to allow the new Goldbug head to sit back in the proper spot. Glue it on and presto, Goldbug!

    Awesome!

I just bought that figure today and was considering something similar. Now I can just marvel at your perfect version. That's the Goldbug I remember!

Bumblebee's head looks like it's glued on. How'd you get past that?

That looks quite excellent. I bought the whole wave forever ago and never even bothered opening bee, though I like the mold.

Put me down please. Looking forward to seeing more.

love it, and when the time is right i will order it as well.

i was looking at the original generations bumblee mold this is based on thinking it would make a better hubcap, or better yet bumper (or bumble jumper), then a bee.
(specially with i-gears version of bumblebee next to it).

any chance you can do either of the hubcap or bumper heads next?

I typically do projects that I want for myself and had not given those two much thought. If there is a great demand for it, I may do it. Folks can send me a PM if they want Bumper/Hubcap and I will measure the interest :)

No swivel :)  It sits in the same position as the Gold Bumblebee head, with a slight bit of the plastic that forms Gold Bumblebee's neck trimmed away.

You should have seen it when I had just the blue face in place (before the prototype was all put together in gray). This little guy is STUNNING as Goldbug with the blue head. Unreal...I can't say enough just how "right" this mold looks with a blue Goldbug head. Anyone that does not have a Gold Bumblebee might want to add it to the POL before they are gone.

JUST what I was thinking, you know how these kinds of little easy-upgrades can spike the market on the original "almost-there" figures :)

How to install the new head? Do you have to cut or anything from the base figure?

Pretty sure it's glued onto a tab, IIRC, so a little hot water, a little prying, and it should pop right off...

Which leads one to think Habsro had INTENTIONS on giving this guy a new head at some point, since most Legends don't have it as a seperate part (at least not in the series of origin for this mold)...makes one wonder :)

I dig it! Add me to the list.

I also would like to hear about the removal of the original head and what sort of modifications it needs to get the new head in place.

It will be cast in the correct blue plastic. I will paint the silver onto the face before shipping. It will be a finished, ready to use head when you receive it.

I will do a brief picture tutorial once the casting is finished. It really is very simple, but I know that it is always nice to see instructions :)
