Astrotrain - Either way. It's basically G1-Toy (Hasbro) vs Cartoon (Takara)
Bumblebee - Hasbro, especially the 3-pack version. The Henkei is G1 accurate, but that just means boring to me
Rodimus - I like the RTS version with reprolabels
    Starscream - no real preference
Thundercracker - no real preference. I own the Botcon one, but if the Generations one was my only option, I'd be okay with that
Skywarp - Henkei wins this one
Ramjet - I like the Henkei's wings, crotch, and fists, but I like the Hasbro for everything else
    Thrust - Botcon
Dirge - I like the Generations body but the Henkei wings
    Grimlock - Hasbro easily
    Mirage - slight Hasbro preference
Megatron - United, but I'm not one of the people who hates the Classics version
    Optimus - no preference
Jetfire - Hasbro. Just as with Bumblebee, the Henkei is boring
Prowl - slight Henkei preference. Not a big difference, but the Henkei is whiter
Bluestreak - these 2 are close to being the same, but I like the blue on the Hasbro's crotch
Smokescreen - definitely Henkei. Hasbro's looks like a clown, kinda dropped the ball there
    Sunstreaker - no preference
Sideswipe - this one actually seems to be identical, except for the Henkei's chrome and missing accessory. Hasbro for me
Red Alert - I thought I'd prefer the Henkei when I first saw the Generations, but they're actually both great. I still wish the Generations had a red head, though (and that the Sideswipe head was a better sculpt)
Octane - minor differences, no preference
Galvatron - Henkei is better, but you can't polish a turd
Ironhide - Henkei's vehicle mode is better, but I don't usually care about that. In robot mode, no real preference. Would've been nice if Hasbro's didn't have a blue face, though
Ratchet - Henkei comes off looking more cohesive. But the Hasbro one has some good points. I like the Movie-inspired vehicle stripe, and the Comic-reference license plate
    Hound - Probably the Henkei
    Cyclonus - "Challenge at Cybertron"
Hot Shot - obviously, the Henkei wins for having weapons, but I prefer the Hasbro colors (Dion is better than both)
Inferno - Hasbro for me (I'm surprised Geewunners prefer the Henkei since they usually dont like bright colors, but w/e)
    Grapple - Hasbro
Onslaught - Same thing I said about Inferno, but in this guys I might prefer the Henkei too
Powerglide - Henkei wins it, but he'd better if he had the Hasbro arms (Storm Cloud is cooler anyway)
Silverbolt - Hasbro preference, but I can see the Henkei appeal (also Darkwind is cooler)
    Seaspray - no preference
Drift - I guess the United is better. It's Drift, who cares!
    Blurr - Hasbro
Straxus - Hasbro, but the United's kinda neat
Jazz - United. Reprolabels make Hasbro look nicer, but United's still got better plastic colors
    Tracks - no real preference
    Wheeljack - Hasbro
Lugnut - I used to think I preferred the United, but I'm not so sure anymore. Would've been better if the jet was purple and the details were green, instead of the other way around
Perceptor - Probably the Hasbro, though this one's kinda close
Wreck-gar - Much like with Astrotrain, I can't judge them. They're both good for different reasons and I'm getting both
Kup - Hasbro. The United's shininess seems out of place on an old tarnished character (and I've been a big fan of Hasbro's mint green color ever since we first saw pictures)
Scourge - the United has slightly more paint aps which give it a slight edge, nothign major though
Rumble - I'm not entirely sure how different the United version is, but since it comes in a 2-pack with Frenzy, it wins for convenience

I put aside every Classics and Universe figure I had for the Henkei couterpart. So Henkei everything, except for the few that didn't get a Henkei release (Ultra Magnus, CJ, etc.).

Generations and United is a different story. I may stick with a few of the Generations versions over United, like possibly Kup.

I guess I'm the other way around. I try to stick with Hasbro for most of the releases (mainly because it's easier on the wallet), but I'll go for the Takara/Tomy version if I feel like it's grossly better than the Hasbro release. Examples: Megatron, Astrotrain, Hound, Jazz, Tracks. I also think the Henkei releases of Ironhide and Ratchet are much better than their Hasbro counterparts, but I'm having a hard time finding them for anything short of taking out a small loan at this point. I wish I'd grabbed the Henkei versions when they were first released. Oh well, it looks like I'll be stuck displaying the Hasbro versions for now... I'm very glad I nabbed the United versions of Jazz and Tracks early, because I think those are gonna skyrocket soon. The Jazz is already taking off.

I just put my preferred colors, not the ones I actually own. Almost all of mine are Hasbro, regardless of preference.

    Here are my personal leanings.

    G1:
Optimus Prime (Voyager): Henkei (I like the chrome and lack of yellow used)
Optimus Prime (Deluxe): either Hasbro version (not a great mold, but the shiny paint of the United didn't catch my eye in any way)
Optimus Primme (G2 Deluxe): United (a more cohesive paint job and the blue sword win it for me)
Megatron (Voyager): Henkei (a bit sharper than the United, for me)
Hot Rod: Henkei (I'm a sucker for that gold chrome spoiler)
Galvatron: Henkei (the colors help it...a little)
Cosmos: Hasbro (the Henkei looked plain to me)
Wheelie: Hasbro (why they went with that yellowish color on the Henkei, I don't know)
Bumblebee: Legacy of Bumblebee three-pack (replacing the white with black looks sharper...I have the Henkei but it looks plain by comparison)
Mirage: tossup (chrome vs nostalgia...I have the Henkei but may track down the Hasbro one too)
Mirage ("crystal"): Botcon (the blue looks prettier to me)
Grimlock: Hasbro (I don't care for the chrome on the Henkei)
Jetfire: Hasbro (not as cartoon accurate, but the Hasbro one looks sharper)
Hound: Henkei (the darker green looks much better to me than the lime green Hasbro version)
Prowl: tossup (I own the Hasbro one and haven't had quality issues to date)
Silverstreak: tossup (I lean Henkei though)
Smokescreen: Henkei (like Voyager Prime, I like that they ditched the yellow of the Hasbro version)
Sideswipe: tossup (minimal chrome and no engine thingy on the Henkei is actually a plus in my book)
Sunstreaker: tossup (the chrome on the engine thingy has me leaning Henkei)
Red Alert: Henkei (the red head makes up for the more G1 accurate, but somewhat plainer, "rescue" deco)
Ironhide: Henkei (cleaner look and no blue face, plus I like the chrome on the weapon)
Ratchet: Henkei (similar reasons as Ironhide)
Inferno: tossup (not much difference, but I ended up with the Henkei)
Powerglide: Henkei (a bit better looking than the red Hasbro version)
Silverbolt: Henkei (the colors look much, much better to me than the Hasbro version)
Drift: United (sharper white and a few more paint aps)
Blurr: Hasbro (though the United's car mode is puuurrrrty...I own both)
Seaspray: Takara Autobot Alliance (I use this as "Classics" Seaspray and the Hasbro as "Movieverse" Seaspray...more G1ish colors on the Takara are sharp and nice)
    Jazz: United (same as Drift)
Tracks: tossup (the flame design on the Hasbro version isn't deplorable to me, and anyways neither flame design is visible in 'bot mode so it's not a big deal to me...I own both and leave the United in car mode)
Perceptor: Hasbro (chrome wins out over a few extra paint aps...the shiny red doesn't really do anything for me)
Wreck-Gar: Hasbro (the face on the United doesn't look right, to me...and I was hoping they'd at least paint the grey plastic metallic silver and they didn't)
Kup: tossup (the metallic paint on the United doesn't bother me, so I'm going in that direction)
Grapple: Hasbro (I didn't remember he had an orange head in some of the cartoon episodes until I saw the United figure...and I could've gone without remembering)
Wheeljack: tossup (I'm glad they went with the sharper white on the Hasbro one, though I like the chest on the United and will pick up that one)
Ravage: tossup (not much difference, really)
Starscream: tossup (the first Hasbro version is more eye-catching for me, even if it isn't as accurate as the other two)
Skywarp: Hasbro (the lighter purple on the Henkei doesn't do much for me)
Thundercracker: Hasbro (I do like the Henkei's deco, but I'll be glad to own one with launchers that actually stay in place...they're all pretty though, as Thundercracker typically is)
Dirge: Hasbro (the black and wing deco look better to me)
Ramjet: Hasbro (like the first Starscream and Jetfire, I like the less-accurate but more colorful deco here)
Thrust: Hasbro (similar reasons as Dirge, the deco changes made were a step up and more accurate anyways)
Astrotrain: Henkei (I picked up Hasbro's initially, but that grey and purple look wore me down and now I own both)
Octane: tossup (I didn't care for the giant chrome weapon thing, so I'm content with Hasbro's)
Cyclonus: Challenge at Cybertron/Battle in Space (I own the Henkei and still like it, especially Nightstick, but the newer release is sharp and more accurate)
Onslaught: tossup (I like the colors on the Henkei so I picked that one up)
Straxus: Hasbro (all of that blue on the United blurs together for me)
Scourge: tossup (Hasbro's can hold it's own, even without a few extra paint aps)
Lugnut: tossup (both look nice...like Seaspray, the Takara release becomes "Classics" while the Hasbro becomes "Movieverse" for me)
Rumble: United (if I remember the comparison pics we have seen, it looked sharper...plus getting it in a two-pack with Frenzy will be a load off of my mind, even for the higher price)

    Beast Wars:
Dinobot: Henkei (looks much better in 'bot mode than Hasbro for me, and it's actually accurate in dino mode for once)
Cheetor: Hasbro (the chrome on the Henkei does nothing to help)

    Armada:
Hot Shot: Henkei (actual weapons, let alone chromed weapons, help a lot)

    War for Cybertron:
Bumblebee: Hasbro (he's shiny enough here)
    Cliffjumper: Hasbro (same here)
Optimus Prime: Hasbro (I would've gone with United if the shiny red paint had been used more consistently)
Megatron: United (the dark grey looks really nice, though Hasbro's works too and has a clearer Decepticon chest sigil)
Soundwave: tossup (the Hasbro has a more pronounced gold chest deck thing which looks better...but the United has a few extra paint aps and, go figure, I don't mind the shiny paint used here even though it's not consistent either)

For me, it's about 10 to 15 percent toys where Henkei/United beat the Classics equivalent (or Hasbro screws up something enough to make Henkei the default 'good'), around 20 percent "What were you thiking Tomy-Takara?" with regards to color, chrome, or metallic paint placement, and the remainder falling half and half between "Henkei looks slightly better, but not nearly enough to justify the added cost". or "Yeah it's more cartoon-accurate, but that just means it looks boring." It would be easier to just say I went Hasbro all the way, except for a these exceptions:

Henkei Megatron (Actually I don't have a strong preference between this and the Classic's nerfy colors, but I totally understand why people would)
Henkei Astrotrain (cartoon color wins out over faded out white in this case)
Henkei Dinobot (mostly 'cause Hasbro totally dialed the 'hue' knob the wrong way on that one)

Thinking about United G2 Prime, as the clear blue totally wins over the clear orange for me, and the Frumble/Renzy 2-pack, but that's mostly because I have no idea when Hasbro will get around to releasing a FrenzyRumble to go with RumbleFrenzy.

In almost every case I prefer the TakaraTomy versions. I think Wheelie is probably the only one I like the Hasbro one better.
