Here's Classics Grimlock! Grimlock was one of my favorite G1 characters. My most memorable childhood G1 toys were Powermaster OP and old Grimmy. Now that I'm into repainting figures, I decided to do Classics Grimlock. This repaint is special for me 'coz its the first one that I used automotive primer on. It's just amazing! It makes the paint job so sturdy and leaves me wondering why I was too lazy to try it out before. After coating with grey auto primer, I basecoated him with gloss black automotive paint. I then did multiple layers of drybrushing using Tamiya Acrylic gunmetal, metallic grey, flat aluminum, and titanium silver -- just like my ironhide. Gold parts were covered with clear yellow, and details were added using copper and red. Without further ado, here he is. I hope you like him! Comments and suggestions are very welcome. That there, sir, is bloody gorgeous. And I like the way you kind of simplified the job by basically painting the whole thing silver and using the clear yellow to make the gold parts. Very inventive.
Yeah, the auto primer really helps to keep the paint job sturdy. I've transformed it several times, it has fallen from my table to the floor, and i don't notice any paint chips. The only area with paint chipping is the rub area where his dino lower leg/foot connects with his fore arm, but that is because I forgot to sand it before painting, I think. I will be going over it with Future floor polish in a day or two just to be sure
Thanks guys! I'm really happy with the positive attention that this custom has been getting. @REDLINE - If I had shelves, I would. Right now, this guy is the only Classics figure in my humble collection of 6 TFs. The others are all five movie autobots. Heheh. I'm more into buying figures to repaint. I will be working on Movie Jazz and Ratchet next, then I'm thinking of getting a Henkei Convoy.
