A buddy of mine has been bugging me for a while to help him figure out how to make a Devcon figure. Well, eventually we decided on Mirage. This is my first significant bash (I don't consider Ironhide from Galaxy Force Deluxe prime, that was just a halfhearted head sculpt and a mediocre repaint)

I should note before I show these pictures that I did not agree with his color choice for the dark blue, and that these pictures were taken before final touchup and varnishing. The dark blue is dye, not paint, but the red, light blue, and the rest are paint.

The engines are actually parts of a pair of pens, and the wings on the arms are actually trimmed off the gun - which, as the pics show, still forms his nosecone. I tried to stay as true to the breif G1 cartoon appearance as I could, despite the dark blue my buddy wanted.

Cool. I really like what you did with it. It works really good as Devcon too. Keep up the good work.

Hm... after finding a pic of this character, it's a pretty good likeness. What season is this guy from? I don't think I ever saw that episode.

The spaceship mode reminds me a bit of a Gundam core fighter. :)

It's from Season 2: "The Gambler", mostly starring Smokescreen.

Y'know, with the little pod/crest on his head, it reminds me that Classics Mirage actually makes for a pretty good Blurr... especially because he's so sleek, and he's two tones of blue, rather than blue and white like the original Mirage.

Does the head crest get in the way of transformation at all? Would it get in the way if he kept his car mode?

HOLY CRAP!!! NICE!!! He looks AWESOME. I love his robot mode, and his vehicle mode. The only thing I could remotely see as a fault is a bit too much red in robot mode. I love the look and he kicks ass.

Nope, the crest doesn't get in the way at all. However, that's by pure blind luck, not skill - there's less than a fraction of a millimeter clearance. And I didn't modify anything about the transform, so even if he had a car mode it still wouldn't get in the way. :D

That works incredibly well. I'm not familiar with Devcon but Mirage really lends himself well to a spaceship mode. I may have to pick up another and do something similar! Excellent work.

I like the alt mode a lot; definitely screams Devcon. However, I can't stand the bot mode of the Mirage figure. Since Devy is a bounty hounter I feel he needs to look a little more imposing. The bot should look like it will pick you up, toss you on the bar, and drag you down it through everybodies drinks, then take you out back beat you senseless for 15 minutes and finally read you your rights before taking you in.

The Mirage bot mode doesn't do it for me. But I love the alt mode.

He does look a lot like a spaceship.

I think that mold would work well for that headmaster spaceship Brainstorm.

I would like to try that, but instead of boosters, I would put wings there, and have the shoulder wings flow into them to make one big wing on each side.

That is a cool and unique use of that mold, dude! The spaceship looks very 80s retro and definitely fits the Transformers ship aesthetic. Fantastic work, man!
