Cool. The more I see of these little guys, the more that I like them. I might end up picking up these minicons when I see them in the store. Peace out.

They need to take a lesson from Micromasters, and have bot modes that aren't ugly and, sometimes scary, like Sledge up there. Frankensteins monster would call that thing ugly.

I like Micromasters and all, but their bot modes are a bit on the repetitive side.

    Variety = good! :thumb

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that thinks these new Mini-cons look stupid. Granted, I've never been a huge fan of Mini-cons, but I liked a few sets. Almost every one of these new ones just look dorky, though.

You're not alone. I think they look pretty dumb too. They're small, cheap looking and don't seem like they'll support very many poses.

To echo other sentiments, the alt modes are good but the bot modes are terrible.

    You're not the only one.

Edit: See!! Someone two posts before me said the same thing!

These look awful, which is a shame since the Alt modes are really good.

I, for one, welcome the variety, as I indicated before. I dig the little guys.

And not to bust your chops or anything Pika, but:

    Well, they ARE Mini-Cons.

Can someone tell me what this means? The term "cheap" gets tossed around a LOT in this fandom lately (almost as much as "lazy"), and I honestly don't know what people mean by it most of the time.

Objectively speaking, of course, these will be rather cheap to buy -- roughly $2.33 per Mini-Con in the U.S. But somehow, I don't think that's the sentiment behind the phrase here. Do people have some ability to judge the cost and quality of the plastic, tooling, and paint used to produce a toy based solely upon a few internet photos? I'm being serious here.

I agree, they aren't very good. G1 minicons are still the best. Why couldn't Hasbro stick to the Classics theme and update Gears, Brawn, Windcharger, Beachcomber, Seaspray?

    I'm not huge mini-con fan.
But I do dig the complex transformations.
Not just the old "flip the legs and pull out the arms" transformation that most small transformers suffer from.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but to me there are a few things that make a figure (and these figures) cheap-looking.

First off, the easily-visible ball joints. I know, they provide more poseability... but they also make the figure look like a cheap snap-together figure that would come in a Happy Meal or a cereal box or something. True joints look like they require more engineering, and thus make the character look more complex. Not that I begrudge the use of ball joints... modern Transformers lines have benefitted from them immensely. But they DO tend to make a figure look a little more simplistic (i.e. "cheap"). Plus they look like you could pull them apart easily, which you couldn't do with metal pin-joints.

Second, the characters look kind of spindly and delicate, like they're made of toothpicks. The G1 micromasters felt much more solid by comparison (though I would agree with whoever said their transformation schemes were a bit monotonous).

I don't know if the plastic quality adds to it or not. It's probably the same plastic as every other modern Transformer. Maybe just the fact that there are few painted details, combined with the things above, that make them seem "cheap" to me. Others may (and very likely will) disagree, I'm sure.

Not too fond of those robot modes, but the vehicles look nice. For the cost I'll bite.
