Hey! It's you! How are ya?

I had this Transformer. You may have him. Cybertron Downshift is his name. Now, Cybertron Downshift has a nice Wheeljack noggin, but the rest isn't so Wheeljack-ish. I couldn't think of any TFs to customize him into, so I harvested his head and deemed him useless. Then, I decided to try out the Classics Barricade I finished recently, and it came to me, as if I'd come in contact with an Allspark shard...Classics 70's Bumblebee!

Alot of my work lately has been clean, so I was looking forward to really getting in there and making him rusty, mud splattered and beaten up.

It took quite a bit of work, actually. After masking the windows and doing the stripes, I started with a base coat of yellow enamel and black, then silver drybrushing. Panel lining was done with a darker shade of yellow, then light yellow drybrushing.

Then, I went in for the mud and rust. I tried to make the rust a redder shade, with a darker core, while the mud is darker on the outside but lighter in the center to make them look a little different. Then I went back, added some scratches, and added little rusty holes where he'd seen combat. Clear dark flesh was used, and also added to the underside to give a patina, rusty look.

The head rests on a newly constructed ball joint. I had to use a dremel to hollow out some of the inside body to allow for the new head to lower during transformation. Originally I didn't have an autobot symbol on the hood, but it seemed like something was missing.

I thought this one would be easy and fast as I could just slop everything around, but that wasn't the case! I guess you could say I needed alot of order to make all that chaos! Whew!

    Thanks for your time!

That's really nice work. Especially like the car form and stripes.

The movie figure of 70's Camaro Bee does have an Autobot insignia though on the piece that forms the center of his chest

I think the head looks way too clean compared to the rest of the body. Maybe you ought to weather it down a bit? Cool idea and awesome execution BTW. Great job!

Thanks for the input guys, I added some weathering to the head as well as an autobot symbol. It just seemed like something was missing everytime I looked at the car hood!

I love him! I imagine he might look a bit like his
rebuilt form from the end of the IDW Bumblebee comic
    !

I have to say, that this has got to be one of my favorite BB bashes (the other being the Aucepidus Prime) piece...

Did you have any WIP pictures? I'd love to know a little more about what work was required to get the head to fit inside his chest cavity...

I like the idea, and execution. I probably would have called him Muscle Car Bumblebee, since a 70's 'bee would be a bug to me, just saying.

I think it works very well - especially the proportions. GREAT JOB! I wish this is what the new IDW ongoing bee looked like.

    That works!! :D

I've never really liked the idea of BB turning into a muscle car (since that is emphatically the exact opposite of everything he is supposed to represent), but this was a nice choice of mold. Especially considering how short this Downshift mold is, it suits BB nicely.

    Great idea.
    Nice mods.
    Nicely executed.

What kind of car is that? Almost looks like a Mustang.
