Okay, for years now I've been wanting to do a version of the classic cover for the 2nd issue of Marvel's Transformers comic. However, I'd put it off because mere tweaks to the designs of the characters just didn't have a lot of appeal for me.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, the "hook" hit me. It gives me a chance to re-create that classic cover in a way that's (hopefully) interesting, AND draw versions of the characters I've never really worked with much (or at all) before.

The following is just the preliminary rough-sketch:

Optimus Prime and Megatron were sketched out as separate elements on notebook paper, scanned in, and digitally composed together. I've blown that up to 11x17 and printed that out at that size on my new Brother MFCJ6510DW all-in-one printer/scanner (no more piecing large scans together!).

Here's the head-study I've done of Megatron to help me along. I've downloaded many high-def screen-captures from ROTF, and acquired some helpful high-def promotional images as well. While that stuff is needed for Prime, its absolutely essential for Megatron. Below are the in-progress Megatron pencils:

Anyway, that's the work so far. I'll keep updating this thread as I go along. Comments are welcome :)

Thank you all. I'm thinking about tinkering with Prime's positioning just a touch, twisting his torso to the left a little, towards the viewer, so that he's not catching the blast full-on and just pitching back. I think the action would be a little more naturalistic that way.

    What do you think?

Thank you all, Wingnut, that's high-praise. When someone doesn't like the designs but likes the artwork, that says something. :)

Ghrar! :banghead:  I've decided I officially hate Megatrion's toothy tank-treads.

Just had to get that out there *lol*
