Hi all here is my take on Hot Rod as his classic mold didn't do him justice with all the improvements they have made with this line.So i took my 2nd Side Swipe and made him in to Hot Rod. I used repo labels for the stickers. I cut up my hot rod to give him the exhaust, spoiler. i used side swipes backpack to add the spoiler to it. I modded Side Swipe,s Heads to look like Hot Rods. all feedback welcome. any tips on how to improve, also will be great X

Cool, never thought of having hotrod come outta these as well hehe.

If i was to be a know all bast*rd, the only thing that might be cooler is work on that spoiler a bit more perhaps? Its a little lumpy which is prob from having to use the existing turbo?

Do you like playing with styrene sheets and stuff at all? With a bit of time and careful cutting i reckon a scratchbuild setup could be more streamlined perhaps?

Or just tell me to shut up heheh.

    Nice flames btw =-)

I think that the spoiler is a tad thick and lumpy. However, the flames and exterior/turbo engine are a very nice touch. Overall, it is a very cool custom.

I can dig it, I think I would have gone with a few fewer flames, but thats just me. and there was a nice thread yesterday about certain signs that are cheap and styrene if you are looking for base material.

Yeah, garage sale, keep out, and beware of dogs signs are all strene. All are insanely cheap and can be found at almost any department store. Easy to cut too, as I use a pair of scissors to cut mine

You could also try to add the intake detail back into the spoiler assembly. The original Hotrod had vents on his back. The best pic i could find is here: http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers...ovie-1986-Animated/hotrod/hotrod_001.jpg.html
but there are better shots of them in the old movie. If you add them back it it should help to make the spoiler look more flush and finished. That or if you could track down a G1 spoiler to use it would work too.

What I meant was that I remember seeing, way back when, at least one Sideswipe made from the Classics Rodimus mold. This is the first I've seen someone doing things the other way around - turning Universe Sideswipe into a Hot Rod.

Not to be down on you cuz you are doing very well with customs lately and pumping them out pretty fast. I know you have a passion for your work but the Classics Hot Rod just looks better stock than what I'm seeing here, sorry man that's just my opinion. As others have said the spoiler is a bit rough and it just doesn't scream Hot Rod to me. The face or it's just the nose but it looks kind of funny. I honestly don't like the face Hasbro used either cuz it looks like our fun loving HR is frowning on their version
