Ok, it is beyond a doubt that Classics Jetfire is, nearly line for line, a three-dimensional duplication of Stormbringer Jetfire. I was comparing them today, and I really started wondering: Who designed it? Don or Hasbro? Did Don create such an amazing design that happened to translate so well to a figure, or was he working off prototype drawings from Hasbro? I would love for Don to have designed it from scratch. And if so, I really have to hand it to Hasbro for capturing it so perfectly.

Does anyone know for sure? Don, are you lurking?

I'm fairly certain Don designed it AND used it in Stormbringer. Josh probably knows, and he's around more.

There are differences in the details and some of the proportions, but he is very similar to the drawing displayed in the post, IMO. I had to take a closer look myself. He's not a carbon copy, for sure, but there do appear to be more similarities than could be explained by simple coincidence. Just my thoughts!

Yes, aside from porportions, he is nearly identical.

I thought Don was doing contract work for Hasbro on the Classics line so.......he designed the comic and toy version.

yeah, Don was totally doing designs for Classics, there were sketches of his Voyager Prime that is almost dead-on to the release and an Hot Rod that was way different (and Better IMO) floating around last summer, plus the Cosmos design from Botcon.

I'm sure, even if he didn't do JF (and i'm pretty sure he had a hand in it) he had access to the design.

i really wish they used all the Classics re-designs in the IDW stuff

I was going through my comics today and was wondering the same thing. Seems like it's VERY similar.

Well I thought every one knew about this from when the first tests shots were show, although looking at him next to the comic one I am really considering bashing mine to look more like the comic one, color the vents on his arm black make some shorter wrist guns,

Me too, but when I realised how many people never noticed it, i decided to post the pics.

I was just wondering who designed it. From most people's reactions, it was Don.

yep, don has designed lots of classics figures, and you'll notice certain design elements from his art carrying over to the toys he worked on, like vents on the hands, and the little lines on the top of bumblebee's nose.

an interesting aside: Don said in the big classics reveal thread that he didn't do BB, and was surprised that they used his version of BB's head...

I thought I read some where that Don stated that he used the Classics Jetfire design for Stormbringer...maybe in the Botcon panel. But I still don't know how much input on the design he had.
