After my band trip in April I plan to buy one of the City of Games. Which one do you guys recommend?
Villains is getting more new stuff right now, since it's the new toy. It's also arguably more interesting to play at the moment. Issue 7's probably gonna go up onto the Test Server within the next month or so, and it'll add levels 41-50 to the villainside content (among other things).
Heroes'll be getting some more major stuff added after Villains has had it's final ten levels of content (41-50) added in I7.
Honestly, considering how cheap CoH (and in some places, CoV) has gotten, I'd recommend eventually grabbing the one you don't buy if you find yourself liking it.
Villains. Stalkers and Masterminds are awesome.
I feel I shall be returning to CoH and starting up CoV soon
Let me put it this way:
I've mocked MMORPG's for years. Never saw the point in them.
But god damn, I love City of Villains.
I prefer heroes, but I could not live without both of them together. Sometimes, you just have to be BAD>
I would buy both, but I don't want to pay for two MMOs at once. If they had a discount if you buy two, (ie. Pay 1.5 times the price instead of the full two charges.) then I'd probably go for it. On one hand, the funnest games let you cause random chaos. On the other hand I'm a big time RPer, and already have a character arc planned for a character in Heroes. On one hand it seems like more of you guys play Villains, and the 2k5 Chaos Bringer name works better as a VG than as a SG for us to play as a team. On the other hand, if I play heroes I could be the nemesis of you guys on villains, which would also be cool for the board. If I could justify paying for both monthly fees I'd do it, but I don't think I could play both enough to make it worth it and develop a character nicely.
You only pay one monthly charge for both.
I believe paying the monthly fee for Heroes allows you to also play Villains. I don't know if it works the other way around though.
Ya, I just found that out a few seconds ago, so I'm totally getting both. This creates MANY cool story options for my RP character. . .
Do the characters from one ever meet characters from the other?
Yes, there are 3 PvP zones and a nightclub where heroes and villains can meet.
Pocket D is the place to be
Is it ever, do you cyb0rz?
Villains can visit the Nightclub? Cool. That fits perfectly with the planned characterisation of my Corruptor, Darkside. Or something similar if someone else has the name already.
Also, CoV gives you 12 character slots (on each server) and CoH only gives you 8 (unless they changed it). If you have both games you can access either Heros or Villains from either game.
The biggest pain in the ass about the game is that just about every cool name is already taken. Count on "Darkside" being taken on every server.
Give it a try still, though. A few people I know have managed to get ahold of some cool names that we'd thought would be taken.
And don't doubt the power of the apostrophe and hyphen.
Ya, it prbably will be, but that is when creative spelling and punctuation are used. I'm sure I'll have ot do something very creative to get whatever the CoV Kheldian equivalent is named Death or something related.
My character has been well suited for the CoH/V dual use, but I never got CoV and haven't renewed CoH in some time.
That just means you have to be more original. I have plenty of characters with cool names.
Alien Fighter V (that's V not 5)
Super Fight Bot
Kung Fu Frankenstein
Stenchbeard the Ugly
I've also taken the time to write bios for most of them. So there's no excuse for lame characters.
The three things I hate most are rippoff characters, those that make no sense and l33t speak. The most anoying rippoffs are the Wolverine wannabees and the DBZ fanboys. I saw a guy called Flaming Vengance who had fire control and looked like Superman. A hero named Darth Vader who had a hideous green costume. Not to mention the guy called Sub Z3r0, who tried convincing me he wasn't a loser, by showing me his bio that was all one long sentence with no punctuation at all.
Separate names with a comma.
