i thought it was just certain stores??? passed by the one here and no signs or anything about closures.
Well as of today only 567 stores were operating still Nation Wide and those 567 stores are closing today Circuit City seeking to liquidate - Jan. 16, 2009
EDIT:^Holy Shit Just certain stores I'm sure I worked at one during the holiday season as a temp and I spoke to the GM of that store just yesterday
They are not closing till the end of march or april. Regardless, This will not end well for consumers of electronics.
havent found a updated list but the one that came out in late November/early December showed that the two that's in Oregon and one in Hawaii is still going to stay open. as much as people hate it...with it being with 5 minutes away from BB and Target, they occasionally have better sales on certain items.
All of them around me have closed. Got some great prices on DVDs because of their going out of business sales... otherwise, I hated that they closed. Didn't shop there too often, but it wasn't all that bad. Always had some nice deals, even when their regular prices were kind of high.
Here's a link to an article: Circuit City to liquidate remaining US stores I can't say that I'm surprised, I just feel sorry for anyone who recently purchased/renewed an extended warranty. My mother was leaning towards me renewing the one on her TV (just expired the end of 2008), it's a good thing I talked her out of it!
Yep. This is consumer-darwinism at work. Base your whole sales strategy around loss-leaders, and what do you think is going to happen?
Tell me how this makes sense: A Best Buy store opened up on 5th Ave in Manhattan a few years ago. Last year they opened a Circuit City right next door. Literally RIGHT NEXT DOOR. How are they supposed to compete?
Wasn't it just a year or so ago when they fired nearly all of the seasoned employees and replaced them with inexperienced and much more inexpensive new hires? Karma, et cetera. That said, hope no one here ever bought an extended "warranty" from them!
Sweet, I got a TV from them after New Year's by haggling, now I can go back and get a Blu-Ray player and sound system.
Baccala1976 makes a good point its like having 3 different grocery stores side by side which one do you think will go under 1st
That sucks. I mean, I never liked the store, but for the people that have worked there, that really sucks. 30,000 employees to lose their jobs. Eek.
