    Circuit City closing 155 stores

Just saw this on Fark. Wow apparently that is about 1/4 of their stores.

I don't care really. I hate CC. Their method of displaying DVDs is a total pain in the ass. Best Buy does it right. Instead of showing the spine of the case for a quick and easy find, they are done like old vinyl albums and you have to flip through them to try and find the one you want. Plus you need to check the prices of every copy because sometimes 1-2 out of 6-7 might be labeled at a higher price. plus their selection is shitty.

I'll just shop at Best Buy like usual. I can go in and find the DVD with ease. They got a much larger selection and often have better prices.

    I'm sticking to Best Buy.
(that or go to Buy More and stop by Large Mart. Then it is off to Wienerlicious for lunch. Maybe some tasty Orange Orange for dessert)

I'm not really surprised considering their prices are more on every single item than any other store.

    Well, maybe not Tweeter.

I've gotten some deals from there in the past, but 95% of the time I always end up somewhere else putting less cash down. I think Best Buy has them beat in customer service, prices, and definitely a better selection and set-up of DVD and music.

Circuit City's return policy is leaps and bounds better than Best Buy's. No hurdles to jump through. Best Buy has always been problematic in that department, from my personal experience.

Still it's not good for the people employed there, and if a big company that's been around for as long as circuit city is closing that many stores, who knows how many other retailers are sitting on the edge.

yeah, DVDs at $23 where i could go across the street to Target and get it for $20.

their weekly new DVD sales are actually good prices.

Good, sick of that place. I just like going to watch the salesmen battle it out for comissions. It's worse than Gamestop employee pre-order pushes

Circuit City was like watching an old Star Trek episode- all the red shirts in the place disappeared two seconds after I walked in. Never could get one to help.

They never kept their DVD/CDs sorted and asking a clerk to maker sure there was a copy in their inventory got sighs and excuses not to type it up.

The most annoying thing was shopping online, finding something i wanted there (site says Dothan store has it) calling the store to verify, and after travelling 30 miles, it was not in stock.

One last gripe- trying out a product in the store is frowned upon. the subwoofer/car stereo area was kinda shut down because punks showed up with F-bomb laden crap and maxed the units out, but not being able to bring in your own disc and a a pair of 'phones to try out a stereo before you buy sucks.

We just got a Best Buy late last year, but i hate the layout of the place. it gets crowded fast.

All i want is healthy competition so the prices go down.
(hate paying 2 arms and a leg for a dvd at Barnes and Noble.)

I'm not surprise about this either. About eight years ago, I had a Kenwood CD player installed in my F-150 at Circuit City. Two years later, the CD player quit working and it was still under warranty. Circuit City repaired it with no problem and it did'nt cost me anything.

Well two years ago, the CD player quit working again and the warranty already expired. I went back to Circuit City to find out how much it will cost to repair it again. Well they wanted a $40 deposit and I said forget it. A salesman at Best Buy told me probably Circuit City did'nt installed the CD player the right way. Last year, I had my brother-in-law to check the connections and he said Circuit City installed it right. So I said no more Kenwoods.

Can't say I'm surprised; Circuit City has been in financial trouble for quite awhile now. And I'm definitely not going to miss them either, assuming the location closest to me is one that closes. The store always has horrible selection of DVDs, nothing is sorted properly, prices are way too high (an especially bad idea for a store located right across the street from a Target) and the place just generally isn't as organized or 'polished' as Best Buy.

I never liked CC, but it's sad that in economic times like these that even more people will be losing jobs.

Here's the master list of stores closing
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/acrobat/2008-11/43169366.pdf

I can't believe they're closing that South Barrington, Illinois store. They literally just opened that store last month when the Aboretum of South Barrinton lifestyle mall just opened up. I'd imagine they've got one hell of a lease there still, not to mention they just freaking opened it up.

Whew, the Idaho store is safe! I love it there. They've always got what I want. It's a shame so many people are losing their jobs due to the other closings, though. :(

No Minnesota stores closing. Huh, I'm impressed. They want to keep going blow for blow in Best Buy's HQ state.
