hey, just found out about this today, thought id share. apparently, over the summer, a church in my area decided to use Transformers for one of their groups. they decided to use them as a metaphor for "Transforming" themselves and others around them, sorta like a self-help thingy. they showed some clips from the movie, plus i think they did something with the toys. one of the secretaries at my school works on it, and while i was there helping out she asked me if i had a large Transformer. so i let them borrow my Ultimate Bumblebee as a centerpiece at a gathering thing, i get it back Monday after the event. anyone else had something like that in their area? cause i thought it was pretty cool, i may try and help out with them

Cool. They ought to have used Beast Machines as their metaphor, though - it'd make it much less metaphorical. :p

My older brother is an evangelist who speaks regularly to kids and youth. He had a message he borrowed his boys' TF toys for to illustrate a scripture passage about what is meant by "be transformed by the renewing of your mind".

Before he started preaching that message, he first asked me what I thought of the idea. I just told him to make sure he didn't use a Decepticon.

    Which reminds me...

I kick myself for not snapping a photo of this, but I saw a car last week tricked out to look like Barricade (although it wasn't a Mustang). It had an Autobot-style logo with the symbol of the cross designed cleverly into it.

On the side of the car were the words: "To worship and serve."

And on the back window of the car was the title graphic from the movie, with the "T" redesigned to resemble a cross.

It was a pretty decent custom job. And I admired the owner of the vehicle for his/her public expression of both faith and fandom.

I find the concept vaguely offensive.

I can kinda see what you mean, to be honest. I think it's fair enough if done genuinely (like a preacher fan using his passion to teach), but half the time (at least) it appears to be just trying to horn in on the latest movie craze to pull in the crowds. Like the recent X-Files ones (a re-hash of the old "the Truth is in here" posters from years ago).
