A recent incident has me curious about if anyone else has had something incredible happen around the 25th of December.

I ordered an opal necklace for my girlfriend, a gold heart-shaped pendant with a small opal and diamond setting. It was just the pendant, my mother provided me a chain to put it on. $70 pendant, $30 chain according to the bag it was in.

The pendant arrived a few days ago. Problem: It was not the one I ordered. The opal was heart-shaped itself and much larger, with a diamond set on top in a gold setting. I was 5 seconds away from e-mailing my outrage that they ruined my Christmas present when I found the item they sent me on their website: $130. Suddenly I had a pendant twice as valuable as the best one I could afford.

I also found out the chain is 18k gold, diamond cut. Mom got it a few years ago when gold prices were lower and the bag it was in wasn't the one it came in. Now it's value is closer to $120.

So my girlfriend is coming over for Christmas Eve, and now my $100 innocent necklace is a very serious $250 piece of jewelry. I'm starved for cash right now so the $70 was all I could afford, I wouldn't have dreamed of getting her something this nice.

Anyone else have a story to tell?

I dunno if it qualifies as a Christmas Miracle, but I got a 10 tip at work tonight just for giving some drunk people a lane at the bowling alley I work at, plus a girl I went on a few dates with and then kind of stopped talking to sent me a text message out of the blue, so it at least qualified as a good day.

Of course, none of that will matter come Christmas day when I have to work 11 hours.

The voices in my head haven't told me to kill today. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

That I haven't gone out back into the tool shed, curled up in the corner, and given up the will to live is a pretty big miracle in and of itself. But, it's still early.

Instead of having to bury my fish because he was really sick and I thought he would die, he actually got better and is more active than he had ever been.

I got a lot of Christmas treats from my staff. Being a manager at Christmas time kinda rocks. Being the favourite manager rocks even more.

I didn't have to spend the whole evening at my wife's grandmother's house this year. Usually, there's about 20 people in this little house and the heat is cranked up to 90. But since I worked till 8am today and my wife had to work tonight, we went over earlier. Got out before anyone else showed up.

I've been smashed for the last two nights without a hangover the following morning and I'm headed off to party #3 in about 3 hours :)
