trust me, it's a lot easier to collect them than build them.

I've got a bunch printed off, but haven't really got to them yet.

I'm primarily interested in the event exclusive Japanese models. I'm a huge fan of J-Cube.
Korean models are gorgeous, but they're horrendously complex.

so, I have a hypothetical question for those of you watching this thread.

I've been talking a little bit with Chiu back and forth and he's happy that people here are taking interest in his designs. If he were to design another G1 model, what would you like to see?

MP sized Galvatron, if only to fill the hole next to MP Roddimus Prime.

Wow! I had no idea papercraft was so involved! I'm extremely impressed now that I've actually looked into it, before seeing this I had just thought is was low-end stuff. Amazing!

I have a question. I want to do this kind of modeling, but once I have the cardstock, where would would I ever get it printed off or what kind of printer do I need to do it myself once I have a pattern?

I would agree here. The only problem, is Galvatron, has a lot of radiused edges and such, could be a really tough one to build.

Then again, Galvatron is a bit polarizing. People would either shit thier pants when they see it and wanna buy them, or not give a shit at all. I know that if the same guy made an MP scale Galvatron, I would buy them 5 at a time, and just build them and sell them.

Jeeesh...its kinda hard for me to think of which one should be next. If your stuck in bot mode (i don't care they don't TF) then you need to pick out a model that is both iconic, and do-able.

He did a G1 prime that is IT'S OWN scale...I say make a G1 Megatron to match that scale now.

I'm one of the ones that could care less about Galvotron but I wouldn't mind seeing Megatron done up in this scale and style. I also would love to see an Ultra Magnus armor set for this kit.

a regular home printer can handle cardstock just fine. 65lb cardstock is recommended for more detailed or smaller models, and 110lb cardstock is recommended for very large models (35-40cm tall or larger) and internal supports. You'd really only need to take the commercial printing route if you wanted your model upscaled to a size that a regular printer couldn't handle.

Galvatron could be do-able. curved edges are tricky, but if you have the skills you can pull them off well. The AMX-004 Qubeley from Z Gundam is pretty much nothing but curves, and I.T.E.M. Entertainment did a pretty admirable job making it pretty accurate to the source.

(Page is in Japanese, apologies ahead of time.)

Also, Chiu did make a Megatron already. It's in my to-do list after I finish Prime.

    More Progress!

    Step 13:

Cut out pieces A-03 (2 each, Left and Right) and K-08 (2 each)

Assemble the A-03 pieces into boxes as shown. The side with the hole on it is the bottom.

Leave the top side open for now!

Get the assemblies from Step 12...

...fold the tabs on the foot assembly up, and fit them through the holes on the bottom of the A-03 pieces. fold the flaps back down when they are through the hole.

Do not glue the flaps in place!

Take the K-08 pieces and glue them onto the flaps.

    Repeat for the other side.

    This completes Step 13

    Step 14:

Cut out piece W-02 (2 each)

Glue them into boxes as shown.

Glue the boxes inside the top of the assemblies from Step 13.

DO NOT GLUE THE BOTTOM OF THE BOXES, ONLY THE SIDES

Glue the tops of the boxes shut.

    This completes Step 14.

    Step 15:

cut out pieces N-01 (2 each) and BK-03 (8 each)

Fold and glue together the sections on N-01 that are blank into "flaps", leaving the sections with X's on them as "gaps" in between.

Glue the BK-03 pieces onto the X sections in between the flaps on the N-01 pieces.

    This completes Step 15.

    Step 16:

Keeping the assemblies from Step 15 nearby, cut out piece B-03 (2 each, Left and Right.)

glue the B-03 pieces into an inverted box. The extra flaps that are left over get glue back down on the box to "cover up" the tabs that hold the box together.

Glue the assemblies from Step 15 into the inverted boxes.

    This completes Step 16.

Pepakura refers to a series of software by Tama Software used for unfolding 3D models into buildable templates/viewing those 3d models as a set of 3D instructions.

    Pepakura Designer

Papercrafting/Paper Modeling/Card Modeling are the "proper" terms for the hobby.

Didn't have a lot of time to make progress on Prime this weekend. Got sidetracked playing 3D Dot Game Heroes on PS3. =/

    Step 17:

Cut out pieces B-05 (2 each) and B-06 (2 each).

Glue pieces B-05 and B-06 into their respective shapes as shown. Get the assemblies from Steps 15 and 16.

Aligning the sides and the back, glue the B-05 pieces onto the assemblies from Step 15.

Apply glue to the protruding edge on the B-05 pieces, as well as the front of the space below it, and attach the Step 16 assemblies.

Aligning the rear and sides again, glue the B-06 pieces onto the rest of the leg assembly.

    This completes Step 17.

    Step 18:

Cut out pieces U-02 (2 each) and W-01 (4 each).

Glue the W-01 pieces together as shown. Do the same for the U-02 pieces, BUT LEAVE THE ENDS ON THOSE PIECES OPEN!

Insert one of the W-01 pieces inside the U-02 pieces until the edges line up. DO NOT GLUE THE PIECE INSIDE. Glue that end of the U-02 piece shut.

Apply glue to the bottom of the other W-01 pieces, and insert into the other end of the U-02 pieces until you glue it onto the previously inserted W-01 piece. Glue the other side of the U-02 pieces shut.

    This completes Step 18.

It is indeed very thick. Handling it like a normal piece it almost feels like a wooden dowel or something. Very clever engineering indeed!

Great! Glad to hear it. I was thinking about ordering that one and some of his Machine Robo stuff in the future. I also want to build his Daitetsujin 17 for a good friend of mine :)

Enjoy the model, and post photos here so we can get a good look at it!
